Ok…did something which might not have been too smart and let Dakota enter another Meet this past Saturday.
Well, it looks like your decision worked out very well. Oh, what it is to be young and kicking ass.
Great vids! Has to be proud Mama cheering him on! Strong kid!!

I was pretty damned worried it was going to be a huge mistake.

You have no idea how loud she was. She never gets that load for me ![]()
Congrats to Dakota and his coach on another great meet. Have you told him that eventually he is going to miss a lift!
That’s good that he did a second one. His deadlifts were too easy for him that first time around. He looks like he’s built to pull. Do you feel like he’s losing any tension on them by sitting in the bottom for a while like that?

I though the 3rd dead was going to do it…I was wrong. Of course I would have red lighted his little butt for dropping the weight on the down.

Yeah I agree hes built a hell of allot better then I am to be a good puller…pisses me of to.
I honestly wish he would stop taking so much time down on the bottom. I would say yes to your question but I can honestly say that I feel hes not fully tightening up until the last possible second at this point anyway. If you know what I mean.

I thought the same thing but he did a good job or reaching down for the bar to show the judges it slipped out of his hands and that he wasn’t dropping it to show off.

I asked him … hes not sure what happened.

Well after reading Beyond 5/3/1 I figured I would give the land of 5/3/1 another shot at least for the off season. I was using 5/3/1 about year and a half ago and stopped for two reasons.
Warm up: Band movements
Bench: 2 x 10 x Bar
95 x 10
135 x 5
175 x 3
210 x 3
230 x 5
265 x 5
300 x 5…didn’t push it
3 x 5 x 230…again didn’t push it
Bent rows : 5 x 10 x some light weight
band pull aparts: 100 total reps
It was a shit show Between not really moving much weight the past few weeks due to a slight injury. Along with running a low carb diet approach and dropping weight I’m feeling pretty god damn weak and its showing. And yes for the record I dropped my training max pretty damn low starting out.
Which 5/3/1 variant are you using? I’m going to go back to it when my goofy self made program stops working but I can’t decided which version to run.

Pretty much going back to doing before hand while implementing a few new options. Still staying with the 3 day a week with the 4 lift rotation. Along with first set last set protocol either multi sets or AMRP plus a joker set from time to time. Also going to implement dynamic pulls on my dead day and of course doing the deload every 6 weeks.

The awesome Mikhail Koklyaev has a long pause at the bottom of his dead too, but it doesn’t seem to do him any harm.
Well done to your son and well done to you for giving him those great genes.

Thanks Farmer BUT…His pulling genes aren’t from me… im long torsoed with t rex arms
Warm up: foam roller light stretching
Deads: 2 x 5 x 135
185 x 5
225 x 3
275 x 3
295 x 3
340 x 3
385 x 8…left a bunch in the tank
340 x 3
295 x 10… capped it at 10
Speed pulls: 5 x 2 x 315… LOL damn near fell back on my ass from pulling one of the reps so fast
Shrugs: 2 x 20 x 315… questioning the value of these at this point
GHR: 3 x 10
Standing band crunches: 5 x 10
Anyone playing along with the home game… Yes this was 5 rep week. But since im a big boy and can half way decide things on my own I decided to just stick with 3 reps using the 5’s % except on money sets.Pretty much didn’t go ape shit today lowered my training max pretty low getting back into the swing of things again plus its been awhile since I pulled for multiple reps in a set.
I’m following and I’d like to see your progress after a little while. I think I’m going to order the 5,3,1 book and see if following Wendler’s program will give me any new PRs. Thanks for the encouragement. I’m eager to do well tomorrow in the contest so I hopefully can post some video and share some meet experience.
