Its going to get real interesting when I can get him lifting again.

Good news. BP is going to actually do the I.S.W.A State Folk style tournament in two weeks.

Well, as I stated above now the oldest is actually interested in doing the state tournament. I am pretty sure that his hesitation was due to his poor showing at last years Free style tournament. So im pretty sure his fear of losing might been what has been playing a hand in his lack of interest. I’m pretty sure a few points I pointed out might have played a hand in changing his mind.

  1. Its a Folk-style tournament and not Freestyle. BP honestly isn’t good at " Free" . Not sure why , It could be just his mind set. There is a different between the two. I stress to him that the Folk-style is the one he excels at and the one hes been using since he first started wrestling.

2.He will have the advantage of knowing he will be wrestling kids guaranteed being close to his same age. I know in Jr.High he has wrestled some kids as a 8th grader whom have been 15 and 16 .So he won’t have to deal with such a large age difference.

  1. Hes just now peaking right now. It takes him several weeks during regular season for him to hit his stride.

  2. The wife and myself aren’t concern if he wins or lose going into this as long as he does his best and enjoys it. 1 st or last makes no difference to us.

You know, it amazes me that Bullpup is so scared of losing that he’s hesitant to enter a tournament.

The kid’s not even in high school, yet has a far more success wrestling career than the other kids will know in a lifetime. And they’re still going at it.

Hell, I’m still pounding at it, even though I’ve never lifted like Dave Tate. I’ve had to build massive amounts of determination to keep going.

BP unfortunately has a over inflated ego right now…which is a major weakness.

Yeah. When every day is Christmas, you get used to good things coming. One tiny speed bump can throw you for a spin.

I’ve heard of athletes who keep win everything in sight, everything’s coming up roses, then one loss or setback and they stop training altogether. Crazy.

When Arnold lost the Universe to Zane, he threw a snit for years, literally.

The trick is building the drive to keep going, even when success isn’t guaranteed or easy.

Well, Luckily BP had his butt handed to him in Freestyle along with practicing with the high school guys.

Yeah I forget what year that was. Arnold came in at his largest body weight ever. After that he started focusing on quality over quantity

Very true.

Oh for Gods sakes !! This bug is still holing on. Last night I felt like death. Luckily, I feel much better today. I ll give a few more days before I start back up.

UGH…you would have to ask.

OK…

Free style

to win… 1.pin
2. win two out of three periods, A period is won when you out score your opponent by 6 points.

You earn points by just exposing your opponents back to the matt. ( case in point I could do a move called a gator roll, and win a period)
Along with certain throws awards you points.

Folk style ( this is the style you see used in schools Jr high through college)

to win… 1. pin
2. Score the most points at the end of three periods
3. Outscore opponent by 15 which is called a technical fall.

most common points: reversals, escapes, near falls( basically having your opponents back angled to the matt for a certain period of time.)

How are they different;

Freestyle: the escapes and reversal don’t count as much point wise.

Folksyle: Throws don’t count and in most cases there illegal.
Just exposing your opponents back to the matt doesn’t count.

That’s the Really, really really simple overview.

I honestly was not impressed with last nights win by BP last night. In honesty it was one of the biggest physical mismatches I ever seen as of late, I told my wife I felt sorry for the kid . I’m just glad that BP didnt toy with the kid. Even if his coach told him he should have used it as a opportunity to work on different moves. He came in pinned him and was done.

Oh to be the pudgy kid… I was that guy and in the right light I still am… hahahahaha. All kidding aside BP does a great job of staying on his toes and putting his weight on his opponent.

Its good to see BP shows class and sportsmanship when its an obvious mismatch…A lot of kids would be much less mature.
