Thanks guys, I have decided to eat directly at maintenance level and focus on body recomp for a couple of months. Reason being if I cut i will look ridiculous because I have no base and if I bulk it will be hard to lose all the fat at the end with an already quite high body fat level.
Once I have tightened up and gotten stronger I will start my bulk.

I have covered some identifying marks up on that picture with some of my girlfriends slap on, couldn’t be arsed doing it again so just erased them.
So, now you’re going to be identified as the guy with the random eraser marks over your body. Not sure how that helps.
Now, in all seriousness, I think your plan of working on a recomp for a few months is probably good. Good luck.

Will keep you guys posted.
You need to eat over maintenance, just don’t go stupid at first. Being a newb, recomp will just sorta happen if you’re lifting like you mean it and doing some sort of conditioning. But if you eat at maint, you will not be eating enough to support decent muscle gain.
I tried the “get in shape, and then I’ll focus on building muscle” thing for years. All it resulted in was frustration.
I am about to set off to hit legs at the gym and very time I bend down or over I get a sharp spasming pain in my lower back. Will I be OK to train or should I not go to the gym today? I can’t tell if this is one of them man through it things or break my body through stupidity things.

Lie on your back and pull your knees into your chest one at a time. Then try pulling your knees across your chest one at a time. You need to stretch things out and then take it easy.
Went gym, waited till lunch though in between work. My numbers were lower but I made sure I didn’t slack off. My quads are ruined and using that hamstring curl machine is bringing fresh new levels of hell. Hard to describe, not sore but just empty, like the leg weighs nothing and i can just feel a little ball in the leg pulsing every couple seconds.
Still not got to do barbell squats, was a line for the rack again
I am not sure if it is this routine or just a culmination of all the bicep workouts I have done starting to pay off but I have added 10kg on my EZ curls in two weeks and my biceps are looking way more swolen and rounded, with a little peak. Feels amazing.
Was a bit skeptical at first when I was told I should gain weight while building a ton of muscle even though I was a bit fat cause I was told the more muscle you have, the easier it’ll be to burn fat. I decided to try it out and went from 160lbs to 194lbs in 6 months lifting heavy and not missing one workout.
Tell you what, I’m stronger than ever and if anything, my physique’s not that much different from back when I was 160lbs (if anything it got better) but I am much bigger (have a hard time wearing old clothes).
Just eat a ton of clean food while working out like crazy with both weights and cardio, especially weights. You will get bigger and you’ll burn fat at the same time. Unless of course you’re going for the marathon runner look.
