Funny thing, I feel it in my quads during the exercise and in my ass muscles the next couple of days.
Indeed. I too can get my quads burning with bulgarians, and the next day… Sometimes going to toilet is literally pain in the ass.
Guess it’s the eccentric work glutes have to do when performing them. When you go down, glutes do a hell of a work when stabilizing your hip.

Exactly, my abductors get really sore a day or two after. I have to make sure to stretch them a couple of times on the next day or else I have trouble running or jumping.
man, you guys are haters.
there are people on here who claim 800lbs+ squats and 600lbs+ raw bench press. these numbers blow my shit away.
i have an older tape of me doing 30x225lbs -bench, 315lbs x 5 push jerk, 365lbs x 8 high pull. i’ll try to put it on here for the haters.

People do post their shit on this site. It’s just that those numbers are so good its hard to believe, but if you can back it up, more power to you.

I love them. My hip flexors are as tight as shit and this exercise helps me more than any other.
What surprises me is the heart rate I hit at the end of a set, I almost feel ashamed at the two small dumbbells kicking my arse.
They are a killer on the endurance front. I’m usually sweating and gasping harder after these than any other lower body lift.[/quote]
Ahaha, man I thought I was the only one. I’m 170lbs right now and I do 3 sets of 6 reps each leg with 2x50lbs dumbbells. my heart rate goes up and afterwards my legs feel like jelly. It’s a very humbling exercise, and I can’t wait till the day I can do the 100lb dumbells, haha.
Anyone else hurt their knees with these? I love them also, they make me cuss using only 10 lbs db’s…but the last time I did them I limped for a week with an injured knee. Actually I don’t know if it was the BSS’s or the 150 lb seated leg press…now I always do a light set of leg extensions first to warm up my knees.

It shouldn’t be the knees, unless you’re doing them wrong (maybe leaning way too far forward with the knee going way forward). If you tweak anything doing these, it would be the hip flexors.

I have hurt my quads on Bulgarian Split Squats. It was basically a small muscle tear, by going down too fast with too much weight. No biggie, but make sure you do them controlled.
