May seem random as hell but the one thing i have found that makes your abs work better at keeping upright and stable in the Squat and other rigid core lifts:
Front BB variants of single leg drills. random in know, but stuff like Front BB lunges and Front bulgarian split squats really work like hookers for getting “squatting abs.”
I wouls also say front squats as stated above but; once you do a good amount of Fr Sq’s you tend to get really good at the etire technique of Fr Sq and you learn just how to keep the bar to maximize leg drive and minimize tension on the abs. The tricky trick with the single leg drills is that they make you want to lean forward but force you back to keep the bar on your delts and not the floor. They also really make you have to balance that shit with your obliques. I even kinda pussed out when doing them at first and used a short [5’] bar and then a girl bar because the balance was intense.
I really really Rx trying them out. I will never go back to non-standing “core” work again.

I ran out of weight on the weight stack to do standing ab pull downs/reverse good mornings. even after I rigged 2 45lb plates onto the side of the stack. the gym staff hate when i do that. had to evolve I suppose.
Also a great way to get clients/athletes “feeling” their abs while still getting them to do solid leg lifts and weening them of sit ups and lumbar flexion.
