Building a Home Gym

Ditto on the Play It Again Sports stores, or what ever the used sports equipment outfitter is in your area.

Typically plates and hex dumbbells are sold at around new $.50 a pound everywhere else. I think they are sold used at $.35 a pound there.

Who cares if the paint is chipped up (its gonna get that way anyway) The plates are still round, heavy, and have a hole in the middle.

Hex dumbbells in real weights are a little hard to come by there, but they have a waiting list you can be put on and they will call you if something comes in that you are interested in.

Don’t mail order plates what ever you do, cause postage will kill you.

Here’s mine

And again

Last one

All of my stuff with the exception of the flooring and the bench were bought off of ebay in the UK (where I live).

I have 250Kg Olympic Weight, 130 Standard weight, power rack, vertical leg press, lat pull down station, incline, decline bench with leg extension attachment and preacher curl attachment.

I train at 5am in the morning before my kids are awake, that way I can play with them when I get home from work before they go to bed… And it also leaves me with the evening free… Training in the morning really sets the day up too…

Cheers
Stu

The things I’d never want to be without:

Power Rack
Texas Power Bar
Olympic Weight Set
Adjustable Bench

Things that are awesome but not absolutely necessary:

Weight stack with cable attachment, plus various handles.
Fractional Plates
GHR
Dumbbell set

Everything else is cool, but optional.

I couldn’t live without some kind of dumbbell setup.
