Build Muscle On Low Carbs?

Can you actually build muscle if you are consistently on a low carb (50-100 gm CHO/day) diet? Poliquin pushes low carbs, but what happens to your muscles? Do they get flat and decrease slightly in size?

LOL. I take it you didn’t read the “Anabolic Diet” thread.

In the AD you carb up on weekends, I am asking if you are on a consistent, 100% low carb diet what to expect?

you CAN… you’d get slower, lean gains, but you’d likely plateau just with lack of strength if you were really looking for gains as opposed to maintaining.

Good call on the AD thread. It looks like the AD is the way to go. Every time I go low carb I feel like I’m losing my mind. Only once have I made it through to a true low carb state.

As long as you are Hypercaloric you can build tissue may not be as fast etc, Why are you wanting to avoid all carbs even low GI/II??

I wouldn’t recommend a down-right low carb/no carb diet like the Atkins for putting on muscle.
However, you could do something like the AD diet or a carb cycling diet and still get some pretty good gains.
Just make sure you’re eating enough calories for muscle growth.

IF you go into ketosis, you feel fine. You just need ample fats for energy.
