I dont speak for Bug, but I’m going to speak for Bug lol.

He’s doing it because it is very quick and he knows some guys who have had great results with it.

Today was kind of… off, in many ways, from the get go. I’ll skip the sob story, but the highlight is prob that I have a hemorrhoid (loolollo). It’s been mad uncomfortable all day. Also couldn’t find one of my straps on my way out this morning, and just felt kinda shitty all day. Get to the gym, weigh myself, and I’m like 214.5 OLOOL. Talk about holding water. Maybe I overdid the refeed. Regardless, I will be more moderate next time. I don’t like refeeding that hard, I feel like shit the day of after a few hours, and look kinda shitty the next few days.

But here’s what I did for back day.

Warmup - shoulders / everything feeling SUPER tight, couldn’t really totally loosen up. Didn’t have stims with me today and I’m sure that’s a factor.

Low-cable one-armed rows - nice contractions

Pulldowns - very strict with slow negatives till the last few reps of last set

More shoulder stuff. Just wasn’t really into it today, and this hemorrhoid makes moving in general a bit uncomfortable. Once this passes Im sure i’ll be good to go. Also once I pass some of this water haha. It’s quite a mindfuck.

bigmac - yeah agreed on all points for sure. Thought “fucking drinking” is def relative to the person

greg - the idea was to have 4-5 voda/sodas… I prob had a bit more, but I don’t think it’s too big of a deal. Not too many carbs at least. After that one leangains article about alcohol (dunno if you’ve read it?), I stopped fearing drinking as something during a diet that would stop fatloss dead in its tracks.

Ryan - I’ve dropped volume a bit, prob 20% overall. Pretty much dropped all intensity techniques, reduced number of sets here and there, cut down extra reps I was doing pretty much jsut for extra pump/volume, put delts and arms together, etc. I didn’t really wanna change frequency up, and exercises change all the time for me, so I’m still going with my gut on a lot of things. So far so good though :).

Yeah, I prob should have done cat1, but no worries. I think after this week “cat2”, if Im feeling good on Sunday, might hold off to refeed, and keep going a few more days (cat1’ish). Then take around a weeklong “cruise” from dieting (add in some more carbs and fats), then one last all-out cat1 blast (hopefully). I’m hoping this yields what I want, but if I have to add one more cat1 blast, so be it. I’d love to get to the leanest condition I saw in the spring/summer, if not better, or at least fuller than I was.

bigmac/spidey (and greg) - Greg nailed it. I probably would have never experiment with such a radical approach to dieting if I didn’t know people personally that had done it, and had great results. If you read the book, there is a good scientific case made for why you could eat this way. If you had to go from say, 25% to 9-10%, I don’t think doing purely RFL would be a good idea. However, using it to kickstart a more moderate diet could be good. It depletes you pretty damn quickly, so I think because of the visual changes I saw last week, it really goes to show ME the ridiculous amount of water I can hold, and how I hold it. Also, because I’m not THAT far from being somewhat lean, a quick and dirty approach is better to me, IMO, than taking a few weeks just to kickstart a diet, gym starts to suffer, etc. Better to just knock it out with one K.O. punch. Dunno if that answers anything. Also, I’m happy to use myself as a guinea pig and will pass what I learn along to others, so if it helps any of you in the future, great.

Haha I was somewhat being silly with the “fucking drinking” comment. Most of the drinking I do these days is around special occasions like holidays and fraternity formals, so I typically plan my training around them so I can just cut loose and have fun, not be carrying a pippette in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other lol. But yes, drinking hard is relative.

Sounds good about the RFL. It’ll be cool seeing your results. I’m typically a “get medieval with training volume before cutting nutrients/cals” guy, but depending on how s3xy yo results is, I might have to give it a try in the next few weeks.

And hemorrhoids fucking suck. I’ve had my experience with them bastids due to mostly-liquid cutting diets. Really not cool at all, pooping should be fun. Hope that clears up soon.

Nah, pain is my rehab. LOL, trying to sound like a badass aside…my shoulder sling makes me look like a gladiator and the ladies seem to like it, so it isn’t all that bad.

I wage you won’t have any problem hitting 240 or over and looking good, all that RFL and dieting and fatphobia probably taught your body to destroy all extra molecules before considering storing it as bodyfat.

Thanks for the lengthy reply. It seems like it would be a good tool for someone who is trying to gain, but is hitting their threshold for ‘comfortable’ bodyfat. Someone could do a quick ‘mini-cut’ like RFL, and not have waste to much time not gaining.

After doing this, are you going to try and maybe go into a gaining phase again?

I like that your workouts are cut down on volume right now. I am not really cutting my volume because i suck at doing less volume. The more volume i can do the happier i am. HOpefully your RFL goes well. I am enjoying the fast results from mine and i know what you mean about the water weight. 2 days and my waist dropped 1/2 inch or a bit more and down 6lbs so far. Lots of water.

Edit: Do you know what your macros are on training days? Obviously no carb but what are your fat (minimal i assume) and pro at? I figure since my activity is fairly high I should do the higher end of the range but i was wondering what you were at. Or oz of lean meat if you track it that way.
