Did you ever have a problem with your grip? My hands still fail me sometimes.
and you know you can wear a purple bridesmaid’s dress everywhere. Don’t think of it as a one shot deal.
When I was in college my mom set me up on a blind date that I really didn’t want to go on so I wore a pink, with gold tulle bridesmaid dress that had a huge bow on my ass. Loved it!

This story is priceless and one of the best uses of a bridesmaid’s dress EVER. Every rugby season we would play one game in old bridesmaids/prom dresses. This was another wonderful way to get some extra mileage out of them.
Always a pleasure to read your log, I love the hard work, dedication and banter that goes on here. It is far more interesting to read the PW logs than the men’s logs…

UGH!!!
On my last squat day I felt a weird twinge in my knee and although it didn’t kill me it felt really unstable for the rest of the session. It kept feeling unstable but I figured it would take care of itself by my next leg day. Well 5 days went by and I went to warm up with for trap bar deadlifts. I had hardly any weight on the bar and my knee just felt painful.
So I quit and just did some good mornings and sled pulls and went home. Since then it has only gotten worse. It isn’t tracking when I bend it and if I turn to the side too quickly it makes a snapping noise. I had a PT friend look at it today. He thinks it is a torn lateral meniscus. I’m so so so sad. I have an appt with a sports medicine doc in a week. I just thought I would wollow in self pity for a moment.

I feel your pain! I am glad you are going to the dr. I walked around for a YEAR on a detached ACL. I managed to tear the meniscus several times due to the instability, ending with a basket handle tear I simply could not ignore. They were unable to save the torn meniscus–it looked, literally, like shredded wheat. I have less than 50% left now. The ACL rubbed for a year on the bones in the knee, causing much more arthritis than necessary. So do as I say, not as I did, and have it taken care of!!!
Oh, and if you have surgery, make sure to read up on pulmonary embolism following knee surgery, and if you have any of the risk factors, talk to your dr about prophylactic blood thinners. If I had done so, I could have avoided a $1200 ambulance ride, three days in the ICU, $20,000 in medical costs, and three months of twice weekly jabs to monitor my coumadin levels.
Are you serious babe? That SUCKS! I am so sorry to hear that! What did he tell you to do? Do you have to avoid all lower body exercises? How long will you be “out”… ?
Thanks for the heads up Chrysalis. It is always good to hear from others that have a little experience down that road. Luckily my ACL is fine. Unless it’s absolutely necessary, I am going to try to go a non surgery route. If there tear isn’t too bad and isn’t in a bad spot then I may be able to rehab it myself.
Molly, I for sure have to keep from doing squats and deads and anything else that makes it uncomfortable at least until I see the sports medicine dr. The general practitioner just told me everything I already knew, and prescribed me a strong anti-inflammatory. I ran into Melissa and she said that she could help me do stuff that should be okay. We’ll see. I’m really bummed about it. Hopefully it will just be a matter of time and some rehab! I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

I’m glad you’re more adult than I am as I plow away with the stabbing pain in my back. I hope it’s easily sorted out.[/quote]
I would like to think I was being adult. I usually push through injuries and make them worse, but in this case it was really that my knee is so unstable while bearing weight that I feel a bit scared for my life with the heavy weight. It kind of feels like I would end up like this guy…

Holy crap. That makes me cringe.
Where are you at? Is everything okay? Don’t be expecting us to believe you have a life
I will update for Sbmart as she is super stressed, like the rest of our lifting group (refer to my journal for details… like that teaser/plug there? haha)
Anyway, the low carb has been going OK for Sarah but she thinks she has developed an egg allergy… so she is cutting those out (and maybe some other stuff… I can’t remember)… she is nursing the injury and working around it by doing good mornings and other lower body movements that don’t aggravate the knee… and doing plenty of re-hab work. She is also finishing her dissertation and that’s a big focus. I personally think she is being a p*ssy by focusing on her dissertation instead of her powerlifting. Maybe that’s just me shrug
So, it’s not a torn meniscus… it’s a subluxation of the patella (I believe)… and it will require physical therapy, possibly surgery and no squatting or DL-ing for a while. Apparently there is a bunch of debris under the kneecap, and a nodule has formed somewhere that is rubbing and tearing up cartilage… I hope I am not butchering what she told me too badly…
Anyway, she is still training upper body and doing LOTS of PT… I will try and convince her to get on here soon and update for herself =D

Thanks for the update Molly.
Good luck with the rehab and I know you’ll keep us updated from time to time because if you don’t then Molly will write whatever she wants and we’ll believe every word.
Sarah is still alive! =D We actually hung out last night and watched the UFC fight together. Her knee is still bugging her a bit and she definitely can’t squat or deadlift. She is doing rehab exercises several times a week and working in her garden a lot =D (luckily I have benefited from her gardening skills too! Yummy zucchini and fingerling potatoes… YUM! =D)
Training is likely going to have to take a backseat for the rest of the month… she is traveling to Oregon (from Ky… BY CAR! =P) soon for a wedding and she will be gone for a few weeks. She is also on the last 2 PARAGRAPHS of her dissertation… so that is taking up a lot of time and causing a lot of stress. But she is almost done! YAY!
Anyway… that’s the update… I know she will be back to training hard in no time! As for her diet, she is avoiding eggs and dairy (they were making her a bit sick) and pretty much eating anything she grows in her backyard or gets from our Good Foods Co-op =D
