No lifting today or lovely Moss walks …snow is still on the roads and its subzero out there. MY GOD we are both climbing the wall not being able to go walking for a week.
The weather also made me choose to not risk driving to my second job this week- I do one day a week at my old job in Aurora.
I feel bad but the money I’d make for that shift isn’t worth the risk of crashing and skidding on 1-70 at 10:30 at night…suchy because I need the money and I feel bad for already missing a day of work at that job for the same reason in january… But I better man up since the forecast says it’ll be awful for another week. Cripes.
I did do pull ups today- nothing special.

Great lifting going on here. 350 is bad ass. The tattoo looks good. The weather has been rough. I think front range is getting hit harder than we are in the hills.
OH word Eric…yep! If I want to get any lfiting done on a work kday its up at 3am, gym at 4am done by 4:45. I’m useless to lift after my shifts at work! I have realized its asking for bad form, and a fucked up back I lift any time besides in the morning.

I wasn’t expecting much today, I feel good but yesterday’s extensions are and deadzos have my lower back and chain pretty stiff. I did get a nice lil compliment from a lady gym member trainer type who told me she loved to watch me lift, that I have great form and “such focus!” :)!
It was very nice to hear! My favorite compliments are ALL compliments but ones from other women and older hardbody old school long time lifter guys are special treats.

I’m changing around my pull up schedule so I can talk myself into more Moss walks after workdays once the time change happens and its lighter longer. We’ll see! I’d like to add one more long one for Moss and myselves’ general well being. Such a fabulous bonding time that I really love.

Great lifting as always Brute. My dog has been laid up for a week now; ‘soft tissue damage’ they say. No sunshine walks for us these days. Do you think a painkiller for a 27lbs dog would work as a sleep aid for me ?? In your professional opinion ?

Hey Eric ! Sorry about your pooch! Rest and carprophen, tramadol , methocarbamol (roboxcin) kinda rx’s? That’s happened to Moss once when we walked far too much a few days ( and I had a wt’d vest on him whoops…!!) Rest and rimadyl ( carprofen) are great for those types of things.
As for medications - don’t take the rimadyl! Its a dog only med! And its basically dog ibuprofen. Not saying you would but I have to always say to people about their dogs or cats-- don’t ever give your pup/cat anything but the meds he’s been prescribed! NO human pain meds or any real meds unless the vet says so for dogs ever!! No aspirin, no tylenol, no ibuprofen , non of that stuff helps dogs and its toxic to them!! NO human pain meds that you can get at the store are safe for dogs! Stuff that is the exception that pets can have but its not pain med stuff --pepcid, omeprazole, prilosec, and benadryl are safe for pets.
Tramadol I have taken myself and it makes you kinda spacey and also gives you stomach upset, it is helpful for some pain. I used it for a migraine and it didn’t do much but make me hypersalivate and feel sick to my stomach–doesn’t make you tired it just makes you a lil weird… I also have had a friend who wanted to see what it’d do and he took a bunch. It made him itch and feel like shit. He was trying to get high on them and it backfired big time, itchy and sick to his stomach however no snoozin. Tramadol is a fairly common human muscle/soft tissue, ortho, prescription pain med that is a controlled substance.
Methocarbamol they do script out to people for a muscle relaxer–so liek back pain and stuff. I have not used it myself for anything but it does not help with sleep it might make you loopy and still awake.
I guess I’ll continue my soap box diatribe with the other part of your comment! SLEEP!
Now sleep aids??? That I have some experience with. My issues resolved with sleep when I stopped working overnight shifts or swing shift (getting off work at 2am or so). Now that I work daylight hours its not an issue thank god almighty. Every night I get to go to sleep when its dark is such a posh luxury I’ll never take for granted!! And its been so remarkable how much better I feel all around just from getting reliable sleep and not working at night every day. Circadian rhythm is no fucking joke, its a life force.
I did however work overnights for 4 years so I have had my share of trying to get help with sleep aids. Benadryl I have tried which would help half the time but leaves a hangover the next day or so. NYquil liquid would help at times too but made me vomit and feel like I was going to die alone in my apartment–it kinda made me feel wasted and drunk. I do not have any experience with prescription sleep aids.
That being said my experience with lack of sleep was not from other causes–there are a tons of causes of insomnia…and I got lucky to have the easy to fix one that a new job solved it. I do know people with PTSD and just other mental health issues, trauma, chemical imbalances, misc pain from injuries and accidents, etc that are a lot harder to deal with. For them working overnights actually helped since they were fucked already for sleep.
I had a lot of success with Valerian root- which helps me fall asleep but not stay asleep. And it is one of those things you can’t really over do it on, but again sometimes it’d work sometimes I’d miss that optimal moment it reached its peak levels in my system and I’d stay awake. I’d often fall asleep and that’s all I needed, but other times I’d fall asleep and pop right back up again. Melatonin is a waste of time for me atleast, it did nothing no matter how much I really tried. Eye covers help too for me but often I’d be so hyped up from work it’d take a long time to settle down…just …yeah…

That shit is no joke, and it absolutely affects EVERY minute of your life, and not just one day at a time but weeks its lack can affect and linger on you body and soul!!! Its isolating! you feel really lonely and envious of sleeping people!! Or not able to really experience a lot of things since the time you are awake with people you are shit to shit from not sleeping well. You forget stuff! You get confused easily!! And it fucks with your lifting!!! My god does it ever!
And what is shitty is most people don’t get that unless they have experienced it. So you get a lot of crap when they have no idea its not so easy and straightforward. People get tired of hearing why you can’t do something when the answer is you need sleep or you haven’t slept enough to be able to safely freaking drive or function stuff as simple as conversations!
Sleep is a massive deal. I have a few insomniac friends who struggle with it nightly. I am lucky my sleep issues were related to my schedule of work, and its helped that I eat better now but I absolutely know how big of a deal sleep is.
It TOTALLY can rule you waking life!!!

AH COOL Eric! I have met a few loggers from the site too! PMPM, Snap, and Soldog, and I am not sure if Kelly was a logger or not but they are some internet lifting buddies who are great in the flesh and on the internets-- are all Denver area lifters who do USAPL. All of them of course being fabulous and full of tips and experience on lots of stuff.
I … though…don’t like lifting with others! I am a loner on that part of my life and get distracted with others around even if they are incredible and full of seid knowledge and experience…I get lost and lose focus. I do know that its really helpful for a lot of people! I hope its great for you!

Today was pretty turbo. The field was in great condition - no mud or snow. Just dry and perfect. Did some farmers handle carries for the first time in maybe 3 or 4 weeks? Not sure but its been awhile since the weather didn’t permit it. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out today.

Two extra nice afternoon walks this week with my love butt. Two different ladies hollered and cat called him too–calling him a pretty and beautiful. My dog is the BOMB.
No other lifting beside what I did today. I got called in early at 3:45am to come help out at work when a wave of crashing and critical animals came in so I had some early mornings. Got all confused and woke up at 3am today- my day off form my day job- so I just went with it gymed it early. Nap for sure before job number 2 tonight.

My new “drop and pull” kinda set up for deads is great but I need to get a better idea of my hand placement! I end up lopside putting my hands kinda lopsided on the bar.

On one of last 315’s I used my belt and it didn’t work too well, I go it up but again, lopsided and also a bad belly fit. Sometimes my gut is bloaty and non belt conducive as it is today. I don’t have much of a waist so it might be too wide and also I don’t have a ton of space between rib cage and pelvis.
Then lots of back extensions in fear I ruined my back which I don’t think I did but just from seeing my form. Supermans on the 45 degree back extension thing, glute activation too
Anywho.
I took a vid of the failed 340 and a god 315 to see how my form is going. I’ll share for some input. When I saw it today I thought I had some no-no-rounding-bending back stuff…Youtube is being widl so it might take forever to upload :{
