re:strong back: I’m on week 2 of the 5/3/1 and doing 50-60% of your 1RM of accessories exercises like wide grip pull ups (with assistance if needed). So my last workout was standing shoulder press as the main lift then 5sets of 10 reps for pullups and dips. I am more “good” sore than I ever have been before after each of these workouts. I guess we’ll see in 2 -3 months if I make gains, but if gains=DOMS imma go with FUCK yes.

bad. i need to lower the wt and not do them like bend-over 1/2 cleans. if that makes sense.

I hated rows before today as well. But now I like them, probably because my back sucks way too much to be selective. I’m going to make myself do them whether I like them or not, so might as well like them.

You know, I’ve never done a bent over BB row in my life. Should I start?

i dunno Kimba…I don’t think it really matters? I just have a bb at home and so i did em that way. also doing rows normal style, knee on bench etc, makes me that much more likely to feel my soul die from back/arm/db stuff and sit down…and give up on everything!

deadlifts bar,135x4,185, 225x12,x10,245 x8. then tried 265 and nothing! ok!
overheads 95x30
planks x 2mins, x1.5 mins
stretch.

i’m bored…but over it. going to shower and stuff.

Bent over rows: I’m not saying my back is amazing, but when I first lowered the weight a little on BoRs so I could feel it where I wanted it and then raised the weight so it was honest-to-goodness hard I definitely got thicker and stronger in my back and just overall. It also feels more rawr than doing them one at a time, knee on bench or cable rows. Feeling rawr is important. :slight_smile:

Brute, did you really do 30 reps of overhead press w/95#? Like, in a row?

Shove this in your ears before you deadlift next time, should help. :smiley:

140 on the bench is no small feat.

OMG! YES! I love them - they make me feel super strong! And you can train them as a main lift, so that’s nice.

OH MY GOODNESS. A rather remarkable boring weekend i had. i think i drove to the store like 6 times. each time buying $5 worth of things…and wandering the isles for shits and giggles
I need to get a second hobby FAST. After 6 months of having three day weekends/four day workweeks and frantically filling them with things, I’ve officially ran out of spare cash and ideas of stuff to do on my time off.

Its a high class problem in a way, but I can’t afford a dog, and I can’t afford a vacation…so mmpf. there’s only so much sporty stuff you can do in a day as well. house is clean. nails painted.

but whatever. its kinda snowing so that’s cool.

Tbh, I have to be a little careful with these. Could put stress on your lower back, which is why I don’t do too many bent-over rows. But maybe that’s more so because I have to be careful of my lower back. I know some people brace their head on an incline bench to keep the angle. Anyway, my $0.02. :slight_smile:

Well there’s your problem right there. Prodigy is good for high energy, if you’re going to be pulling heavy you need something, well, heavier. :smiley: (I couldn’t ever really get into them, Fear Factory, Static X was about as industrial as I could go. Some folks say Rammstein is industrial, I just call them excellent.)

On a more serious note though, again allowing for the failure of rep calculations particularly as your reps go up, 225x12 has you maxing at so close to 315 we’ll just say 315. That said, if you do sets of 12 and 10 (then 245 for 8) your deadlifting muscles will be all burnt out for heavier weights. I’m absolutely not saying you should or shouldn’t lift a certain way, just being captain obvious. :slight_smile:

You may be a nerd, but it ain’t because you did 30 OH squats with 95#! No comment on the rest of your comment on them. laugh
