Really cold up here in Summit county -33 yesterday morning about 0530. I have worked nights for many years and it really does take a toll. I find the same frustration of being wide awake on my weekend while every one else is sleeping. My girlfriend was in the corporate work world and on a day time schedule so were were rarely awake at the same time. Some coworkers just try to stay awake on there last day of work and change their schedule, I did that a couple times it only made me tired and grumpy. Vit. D helped me a little because I rarely saw sunshine. Night time workouts also seemed to help a little. Hope every thing heals up and straightens out for you. On the vision issue I have found that when sleep deprived my sight gets worse until I can rest up. I would describe it as not being able to read road signs because my eyes would not focus. Long post but I guess I understand some of what you are going through. Best of luck

today was figure out how to clean jerk and snatch day. here are vids…please let me know if this is even remotely correct. For the record i plan on only playing around with these exercises since i should probably get coached first before i get started.
also benching today 120x5,x4, x whatever until i got 25. I did about 6 sets total all misc numbers of reps, between 2-4

The oly lifts looked great! I mean you’re cleaning 111 right off the bat. That’s awesome!
And you def have the general mechanics, so you’re way ahead of the curve.
I’m no expert (obviously!!), so i’ll refer you to pendlay. You can check out the progressions and this will give you an idea of what components make up the lift.

That said, the only thing I can tell you is with the clean and jerk you def want to catch with your elbows raised, like in the front squat position. And then when you split jerk it, you want to get that forward leg forward, just as much as you want that back leg back (if that makes sense). But you did a good job throwing the bar, and if you kept your elbows up you could probably toss that thing to the moon!
And for your snatch giggle - i’ll have to direct you to the Pendlay link. I’m really bad at snatching, so I’m afraid to give you the wrong info. Anyways, you basically did a ‘muscle snatch’! which is great! And just shows how strong you are.

On the Over 35 forum, check out Carl Darby’s log (Marathon Running Looking Dude . . .). He is an Oly lifter and posts vids regularly. His form is beauteous. I learn a lot by watching him even though I’m not doing Oly lifting right now.
Also, Da Charming Albino is teaching himself the Oly lifts and posts vids (A Pale Yet Affable Ferrophile).
And you can post in the Pendlay section. I have found Glenn to be really responsive, helpful and kind.

I think perhaps I’m going to take a slight detour training pl wise. I don’t quite know what’s wrong–but I’m just not feeling right.:{ I think a nice diversion into learning new task and being slow with it might be helpful.

got a weird smell i smell when i bent back and over for benching to get my arch on. I don’t know if anyone else gets this,but sometimes i get an odd smell in my nose when I’m about to get a migraine or after i hit my head on something :{ ha! umm…??

ask for a recommendation for a GP from someone you trust, and call to make an appt (spend a few min remembering med history stuff… surgeries, happenings, when you got your first period, drug allergies, injuries, etc.).
most docs are very appreciative of people who come in for a physical. gives them a baseline for when something IS wrong, rather than comparing your stats to thousands of others who only go to the doc when sick.

OMG I can’t believe how ridiculously easy you made it look to powerclean and jerk 50kg!!! Playing around with the exercises can be a whole bunch of fun! When I don’t think I can stomach technique work in the dreaded heat I go to the more commercial part of my gym and play around with the preloaded barbells in the air conditioning. Only thing I’ve done with the 50kg is deadlift, though, lol.
I don’t think you are using much hip drive. Which is part of what makes it impressive that you can powerclean it… Once you get the hang of that you really will be able to put up some terrific numbers!

I don’t want to scare the shit out of you but phantom odours can indicate a brain tumor. If you suffer from migraine, though, it is most likely that. Do get checked out, though.
I went through a few months three years ago (I’d just turned 40) when everything went wrong - I had in the space of 8 months cystitis, the 'flu, bronchitis, a regular cold and a 48 hour headache and vomiting bug. On top of that my cycle got completely irregular and I was feeling spaced out and weird (a bit like being drunk, but without the happy feeling and loss of inhibitions), plus I had instances where my heart would speed up for no reason. Had numerous blood tests but nothing showed up - even hormones seemed OK.
I’m still not sure of the exact cause - I suspect it was a combination of excessive aspartame consumption (I had a bad OCD gum chewing habit, plus I was drinking Diet Coke a couple of times a day) and overtraining (I’d discovered Crossfit and was doing that, which can be very intense and hard on older bods). I quit the gum and cut back on the training until I was doing slow and heavy with plenty of rest between sets. My body sorted itself out.
I guess you probably don’t have a bad gum habit but it might be wise to dial back the training intensity for a bit. If you’re not feeling right, you gain nothing from pushing yourself. Good luck.
