Nice picture of the babe. Did she get away from the gorilla with the head lock on her her?
Congrats on the PR. I keep meaning to do more floor presses but never get around to them.
Good you’ve got a competition line up to set your sights on. Looking forward to following you preparation.

Looks like a nice vacation.
and nice work, seems 531 is what all the cool kids are doing these days, it sounds solid.

and why do I get the feeling I am the smallest, person here.

Hahaha… she tried, but to no avail. She finally gave in to the carnal desires, lol!

I am actually looking at a competition for June 6th too, something in between to get my feet wet before the one in August. I am just trying to find out if I have to be a member of an association or federation to compete in this one.
When I first started doing floor presses, there was about 4-6 inches between the bar and my chest, now, there is only about 2-4 inches. Think I have put on a little beef…

Yeah, I was looking for something a little more structured, where it would be easier to see progress, or lack there of.

Size is all relative KM. Like Meat says… “Big ain’t strong… strong is strong”.

Hey, you are in Manhattan, right? The 2011 World Police Fire Games are being held in New York, I don’t know if a location/ venue has been settled as of yet, but if it is in your neck of the woods, and my training goes well (no injuries etc) I plan on attending for the powerlifting event.

Beef is good. I need to sneak $20 out of my wife’s purse and buy 531, now that the new version is out.

Are you using the new one, or the old one?
ol

I checked out the 2011 fire department games
site not much info yet.
I/we are in Manhattan I would totally check it out

and I don’t mind my size- I am just impressed with the size of most of the hosses on here.

Unless you’re going to a pick-up, non-sanctioned meet, you’ll likely have to pay a fed membership fee.

Get that range-of motion to zero, baybeeee!

MJ-- I don’t have a copy of the book (old or new), I am just learning from other peoples posts and making it up as I go along. I think I have the basic idea… kinda sorta.

KM-- Yeah, they never even started (updates) this years web site until about 3 weeks ago, and it keeps crashing… like today. I will keep you updated.

SKID-- You are correct, I just got the email from the Ontario Powerlifting Association, and they advise I have to join the OPA to lift the meet. They also advise that I am not supposed to lift in un-sanctioned events… like the World Police Fire Games I am scheduled to partake in August. I just sent them another email asking for clarification etc. This is stating to become a hassle.

MARCH 17 DEADLIFT 5/3/1

This was my first deadlift session since tweaking my lower back, still a little wonky.

DEADLIFT
bar x warmup
135x5
135x3 (sumo with hook grip)
225x5 (conventional- hook grip)
315x3
405x2
(working sets- belt on)
75%= 445x5
85%= 500x2 touch and go then x1 60 secs rest
95%= 555x0 %^&$#!!!
95%= 555x0 again ^&%$#@!

  • I dunno why, couldn’t seem to rip it. I think the injury still in the back of my mind, plus, I have been ignoring alot of back/ assistance exercises as of late. Time to remedy that.*

SLDL
315x8
315 x3 sets of 6

DUMBELL ROWS
130 x3 sets of 6

CLOSE GRIP CABLE PULLDOWNS
220x7
270 x3 sets of 5

AB CABLE CRUNCHES
some for some

WEIGHTED SIDE CRUNCHES OFF HYPER BENCH
some for some

REVERSE CRUNCHES
some for some- real pitiful too

STANDING CALF RAISES
210 X3 sets totaling 50 REPS, then BW to failure

Ok, time to start paying attention to the assistance exercises again rather than just the full ROM movements.

I have also noticed my workload capacity has diminished significantly. When I do any heavy movement over 5 reps I am sucking wind big time. time to remedy this as well…

pretty heavy stuff for such a tiny fellow 8*)

What the federation dumbasses dont know wont hurt them. lift wherever and whenever you want. you don’t owe those butt wheezers anything.

OL

Its a weight lifting “club” not a labor union.
I get offended at people like that…

Maybe its time for complexes,
and some sled pushing/pulling

The worst that’ll happen is that they won’t let you play in their games anymore. That happened to Brian Siders for lifting in a fed that had a banned lifter (Ed Coan! I believe). Siders went and did strongman competitions until the ban was lifted and so is now more well known than when he lifted only in his fed.

June 7th is the New England Raw, in Rhode Island, and it’s unsanctioned. It’s actually a good meet, 40-55 lifters and good numbers. I placed 2nd in the overall masters 2007 and bombed out on the bench last year. I would like to do it this year, but I want to do the USAPL New England in May.

MJ- I agree with you, and will probably do just that… what the hell is a “butt-wheezer”? lol!

KM- you are absolutely right as well… what are “complexes”? I know what sled drag/ push is…

SKID- yeah, what are they gonna do? Take away my birthday? The WPFG is every 2 years anyways, so if they suspend me, how long could it be for… 3-6 months maybe?

DANJO- I have been looking for an unsanctioned meet up here… no luck thus far. So… are you going to compete in June as well or no?

Don’t let them take your birthday away. Happened to me when I was 52 and I lost 2 years. Ended up back at 50.

That was a big jump from 500 to 555. It probably scared the shit out of your body.
Maybe smaller increases next time.

You could always try a virtual meet. We just did one last weekend. The next on is June (I believe). Check their website.

Lol! They took 2 years? Hmmm… maybe I should let them…

I just spent the last hour on the virtual meet site… watching the videos… pretty cool idea!

I know you said previously you are/ have a rowing team and are a coach… were those your students/ rowers competing?? I think I am going to look into this a bit more, looks like fun.

There certainly are some characters competing though… a few of the videos I watched I was waiting for someone to barf out a spleen or something. Do you compete on this site?

Interesting site. I reckon they really count on the lifters being honest about their weight and poundages…

When you put it all in perspective - If you get a good lift you win fuck all. If you miss your lift you lose fuck all. Why bother cheating. It’s only for the fun and the experience of doing a meet. Oh yeah - bragging rights.

I have everyone I train do full depths squats and a pause on the bench. And no hitching on DL. Even the 12-15 year olds in my youth program. Just like in comp.

Last weekend we had 5 lift on Friday and 9 on Sunday, so I predict Canada will win the team title - AGAIN.

Good thing we lifted on Sunday when there were no classes on in the building. There was so much screaming going on you would have thought it was Bejing 2008.

I didn’t mean to sound like I was down on it. I actually like the idea.

MARCH 20 SQUAT/ ASSISTANCE

SQUAT
bar x warmup
135x5
225x3
315x3
(belt on)
405x3
455x1
(wraps on)
475x2 (PR 1 rep)
495x2 (PR 1 rep)
have not really focused on form/ heavy squatting for a while, but it can only help my deadlifts and everything else, so I plan on going M.E. every second squat session.

D.E. SQUAT (no belt or wraps)
315 x 8 sets of 3 reps
nice and slow down, paused at bottom, explode up

BENT OVER REAR D.B. FLIES
(done with bench grip)
20-30-35-40 (ran the rack, failure each set)
45x 2 sets to failure
30x 2 sets to failure

legs, glutes, hams and hips really fried after this session. Felt good, nice and sore everywhere today.
