Aw man…I’m sorry I looked at that. A week in Mexico sounds REALLY nice right about now. Have a blast buddy. Great video of your deadlift!
Hey Hoss.
Are you still interested in a training cycle for that “horrible” deadlift of yours??
I have a few ideas. If so I’ll PM you my ideas.

Thanks Skid, KMC and Hel… and yeah, I am definitely stronger now than I was 20 years ago… and getting sronger. Be interesting to see how much farther (and for how long) I can go.
Hel… at what age do I get the Vette or the Porsche?? lol!
you go as long as you think you can go… that’s the answer. a perfect death for me would be to be pull’n against a PR attempt on the platform at some competition and as i lock it out and see the signal for “down” i keel over… but i don’t want to see the big white light before i see those beautiful smaller three white lights.
who are you kidd’n we are both “civil servants” we will NEVER have the vette or porsche.

Thats how Chuck"The Truck"Braxton cashed his ticket, on the plateform pullin. One of the old school great lifters.
Where in Mexico are you going? If you are going to Puerto Vallarta (they have a lot of the all-inclusive resorts there) make sure you check out “old town” its really cool, and its real mexico.
Have fun!

We are going to the Mayan Riviera- Tulum… checked Google maps, apparently it is 1850 kilometres… or approx. 20 hours by car. I don’t think I will be going there… next time maybe we will get a resort closer to the city. Apparently there is an old town “Playa del Carman” close by… maybe similar?

I knew it when I was doin’ it… still couldn’t help myself. Oh well… I will chalk it up to getting my liver and digestive tract ready for the Mexico vacation… Hola!

TEST AND M.E. BENCH
Went in today feeling really good, and it has been over a month since I tested one rep max, so I said what the hell. Here is the play by play…
FLAT BENCH
bar x warmup
135x10
225x5
275x2 (paused)
295x1 (paused)
315x1 (paused
(belt on)
330x1 (paused- PR 10 lbs!)
340x0 (halfway up- stalled)
275x6
** I was going for the 7th rep @ 275, felt a weird twinge inbetween my spine and my right shoulder blade… felt strange, didn’t really hurt but I racked the weight, sat up, stretched a little seemed o.k.**
PIN PRESS (#6)
335x0- Holy $%#@!
**did my set up, unracked the bar, when all of a sudden it felt like someone stabbed me in between my right shoulder blade and my spine. My right arm went kinda tingly, and I could not get a breath… hurt like a mother #$%@!
I got up off the bench, walked around for a bit, pain subsided… thought to myself I would not do any more presses today, went over to the triceps pushdown bar, threw 60 pounds on and did one rep… I almost went to my knees with the pain.
Looking at an anatomy chart, the location looks like either my “rhomboid” or the bottom of my trapezius tie in. It could also be a pinched nerve, pulled muscle… or a even spasm… I don’t think I tore anything. No bruising or discoloraton yet.
Piss me off… I am praying this is something very minor…
sounds like a pinched nerve to me. If theres no bone sticking through the skin or jetting blood, you must be fine.
Playa del Carmen is nice. Depending on the time you have, there is a ferry in Playa del Carmen that goes to Cozumel, an awesome island. I havent been there since 1992, but there is a restaurant there called marguerrite’s that makes margeritas[sic] as big as your head.
My wife and I went there in '92, her drink was 16oz, and mine must have been a quart. Back then, the northern part of the island was all jungle and the beaches on the north end, the sand was like talcum powder, I think from crushed coral or shells or something. Beautiful area. If I might recommend Pacifico Beer. And a locally made, and until recently illegal in the US, Sotal.

DEADLIFT
Started a new DL Program today designed by Meat. It is pretty deadly.
Went in today a little tenative with the recent back injury… does not seem to hurt to pull… only push/ press seems to hurt. Weird.
R.E. DEADLIFT (70%)- all reps overhand grip
bar X warmup
135x10
225x5
315x5
(working sets)
420x7
(rest 60 secs then…)
420x3
ELEVATED DL/ RACK PULL (pin #2 1" below knees)
495x3
675 x 2 sets of 3 reps(PR 40 lbs and reps)
675x2
DEFICIT SPEED DEADLIFTS (60%) (used 35 lb plates)
–was supposed to be 350-360 lbs, but I screwed up, math never was a strong point for me…
395 x 5 sets of 3 reps
*I could not figure out why 350 felt so heavy… until I realized I did not include the weight of the bar. DUUUUhhhhhhh?!
I am freakin’ spent. My volume has been low lately on deads, and I paid for it today.

awesome job today!!! i would like to see you take that RE set up to 450 or so next time and use straps on it. yes… i said straps. use your double overhand for warmups. but i want you to do them touch and go. i would like to see the reps in the 6-10 range and then when you can get 10 reps- all touch and go without rest. then move the weight up.
the elevated pulls are meant to be at your weak point. if you are pulling that much above your max then it’s not a weakpoint. play around with the height and find the spot where the weight gets really heavy. i can’t even pull my max full ROM dead from my elevated sticking point. the reason is that i’m fast off the floor and the momentum carries me through the sticking point. if i start at the sticking point, there’s no momentum. so keep look’n. you are also fast off the floor so you should be able to find your true sticking point.
and… why didn’t you do all 8 sets on the deficit pulls??![]()

Glad to hear the back wasn’t a problem today.
We’re getting a pool of money together to buy you a calculator and a dwarf with OCD to remind you about the bar weight…

I know. Bunny bad. But, in some weird way, I figured that 5 sets at 45 pounds more than I was supposed to be doing, worked out even in the end.
Plus… my ovaries hurt.
Skid… can you make the dwarf is female??

Why would either of you want a vette or porsche when you’re built like a “Nissan Titan!” Amazing power, both of you, don’t ever stop!
Thanks SL and Hel… too damn funny.
Did not do accessory day, last 2 days have been doing my annual “requalification” for my “employment”, which consists of some pretty physical stuff.
So, will be going right to my M.E. Bench today.
Hopefully the problem with my upper back has sorted itself out, has not bothered me too much the last 3 days.

Hope your back sorts itself out for you.
Looks good otherwise.
