Brotherhood of Iron 2.0

Sdot, I have tried it. If I pre-exhaust muscle A then do a compound movement, I subsequently move much less weight but I feel a tremendous burden on muscle A. I guess that is the whole idea.

Personally I have not found this very effective because as a skinny new guy, I need to lift heavy shit as much as possible. Really not targeting much to be honest, haha.

I’ve managed to read through the first B.O.I. but never posted, so I’ll break my BOI cherry here

Below is yesterday’s entry into my log. Little background: Last year had nasty L5-S1 disc injury with squats and spent the whole year starting over from BW squats to yesterday’s PR.

At 36 I’m looking to pack on as much muscle as possible before the “T” factory shuts down…

Some fucktard was curling in the squat rack, so I had to buy some time doing other stuff. A colleague was at the gym and he wanted to squat , too, so we paired up, joking about Mr. S.R.C. Dude.

A1: 1-Leg DB Deadlift: (2x20)x8, (2x35)x10, (2x50)x8
A2: BW Squats: x20, x20, x20

B1: 1-Arm DB Snatch*: 60x5, 70x5, 80x2

C1: Squat: 135x15, 225x8, x10, 275x4, 315x2**, 225x8

D1: Hypers: +50x8, +70x8, +80x8

 • Reps are really singles. I bring the DB down controlled, place it on the floor, stand up, and re-set.

** BIG FUCKIN’ PR!

Word is that he left because of some heated arguement that happened on the politics forum.

Its a damn shame, and a reason why i never get into my personal views on a bodybuilding board.

Seriously? I butted heads with him from time to time over there but he was a good dude.

I agree with this. I don’t get why you would want to tire out a muscle before doing a big compound movement. I’d rather move the most weight first and then beat the hell out of the muscle.

Upper body Repetition day

DB flat bench

100 lbs x 10
100 lbs x 9 (hit failure… odd)
100 lbs x 8
100 lbs x 8

Weighted chins / facepulls superset

25 lbs x 8 / 170 x 12
25 lbs x 8 / 170 x 12
25 lbs x 10 / 170 x 15 (went all out)

DB Military (standing)

75 lbs 4 x 6 (these were tough)

Shrugs / Tricep pressdown superset

405 lbs 4 x 10 / 120 4 x 15 (last set was a dropset)

Hammers on steep preacher bench

35 lbs 8 x 3

Reverse grip preachers (EZ Bar)

65 lbs 8 x 3

Notes: Today felt like a fuckload of volume and took me almost 2 hours to get through it all… I rotate doing the bicep work, sometimes on legs days… it just happen to fall on today. Went hard, as always

Time to EAT!

The only bread I can tolerate without indigestion and fat gain is Ezekiel bread. Even so, I use it pretty sparingly. Carbs hate me.
Ezekiel bread is good, just don’t happen to have any at the house atm. I have to go out of my way to trader joe’s or something to pick it up usually.

July 10, 2008 Legs 3B
Deadlifts 345x4 315x5or6 (time for a deload. 225 felt like 405. deadlift after back day=no good)
Leg press close/low stance 6ps/side x12 6ps+25/side x12 7ps x10
Bulgarian split squats 35s 2x12
Ab circuit
Calves on HS power squat (DC style) 3ps+25 x12

Here’s a sample training day diet:

Meal 1: 4 whole eggs, 2 cups mixed berries, 2.5 scoops whey.
Meal 2: 8-10oz ground turkey and spinach w/ some tomato sauce. Handful almonds or peanut butter
Pre/Peri workout: 1 scoop waxy maize and BCAAs
Post workout: 1 scoop waxy maize and BCAAs. 20mins later 2 scoops whey,
5 grams creatine, cup of mixed berries.
Meal 3: 8-10 oz ground turkey and 1 cup black beans and some tomato sauce
Meal 4: 8 oz ground bison, spinach, and some tomato sauce. Handful almonds.

Take a multi and fish oil caps with every meal but post workout. Non-training days everything is the same minus the pre/post workout meals including meal 3.

josh you’re eating a bit more than me…fun stuff ain’t it, throwing that much food down to gain weight? I’m sure 10 years from now we’ll both be glad we did the building now though, so keep eating big.

And stines, I’m sure once you hit your goal weight you’ll want more. You’re not THAT old yet.

I’m eating a bit more than you and you are quite a bit larger and stronger than I am…that isn’t a good thing for me. I’m sure if I continue like this I’ll gain too much fat, I’m backing it down a bit (aiming for closer to around 4000, a bit more) and if I don’t gain weight I will slowly up it.

I don’t want to gain unneccesary fat. I’ll post up what I ate today later…my breakfast was a bit crazy but other than that its been a good day so far.

And yes it is fun actually, I LOVE to eat. I am never “stuffed”…I haven’t said the words “I’m stuffed” in a very very long time. I seriously have a problem. haha

Wait, why are we starting over?

The other thread was so long that sometimes it would take up to 5 minutes just to load. That’s tha main reason I believe.

Yup, that thread was like 250 pages, it took forever to load!

I actually never had issues loading the old one, odd since I have pretty crappy wireless here. But if it makes it easier on other people, that’s a good enough reason for me.

josh, probably a good idea to drop the kcals a bit until you figure just what you need for optimal muscle growth, good luck with the tweaking!

Great thread.
Box squat worked up to 3rm which was 230. I am still getting used to these. 225 was my max a month ago so I am happy with 230 three times
Step ups 3x6 25, 35, 45
Some core work
Single leg squat to box I was able to lower the box this time which i was happy about.

yeah I figured it would be smart to drop em and see if I grow anyway. I was just eating tons, without regards to how many calories I was consuming. Figured it was better to be on the high side initially - getting myself into the groove of eating big again.

Today was the first day I decided to add up everything I ate for one day and see approx. how many cals I was eating, I was surprised. lol At least I know when it comes time that I require 6000cals to continue to gain size that I wont have any issues doing so, haha.

Im messin around in fitday and added in my pre and post workout shakes. Looks like I’ll be around 3100 calories after my post workout shake. That leaves me 2 more meals to get in approx another 900 calories. On track perfectly today!

It was becoming a bit of a pain to load the page. Much like Thib’s Q & A section, it was just time to start it over again.

You gonna log any of your workouts over here Brendan ?

H4M, the new picture looks good btw.

Dang man those were some seriously low carbs…I think my body would shrivel up and die if I tried that even for a couple days. I definitely like my carbs.
