Josh, I know how you feel about not being able to have your chest day. In the long run though, this break will help you I think, and your numbers will most likely blow up yet again and you’ll be flat BB pressing 365 for 10-12 next week.
My legs are so fucking sore. It was utterly painful to get out of bed this morning. I have chest today (lol…), so yeah. I’m gonna use the wrist wraps and see if I can do some damage.
Yeah man well I have this feeling like if I REALLY wanted to I could go do chest but it would be PAINFUL in the shoulder and it wouldn’t be an optimal workout (ie not beating previous numbers) and would most likely just set me further back.
My legs are pretty sore today too, I was stoked about hitting 50 lbs more on the leg press for the heavy set and still getting the same 10 reps. Guess next week I’ll be jumping it up to 9 plates per side (yesterday was 8 and 25’s). I think 9 is when the machine would be maxed though, I remember thinking that as I put the 25s on yesterday. Going to have to start placing a DB on top of the slide. Only gunna be able to do the leg press for a few more weeks at best it looks like.
Been going to the gym for about 3 years been serious about it for about 1 1/2 … had a bad spell of about 6 months (poor diet … lack of motivation and beaucoup distractions … no one’s fault but mine) … but the last 4 months I’m almost back to where I was when I was at my strongest … making some great gains … I’m doing the Bill Starr 5x5 and lovin it …
Funny story: Had a suit tailored when I was in Korea. I looked damn good in it too … that was two years ago. This past Friday I tried on the pants again (haven’t worn em since march of last year when they fit like a glove)and if I were to bend down to pick up a nickel I think they would’ve split right along the ass-seam. Made me feel like what I’ve been doing is workin (which it is)
Moral: It’s threads like this that make me pissed at myself for the 6 months I was a chump … it’s threads like this that give me the little extra motivation to opt to go lift during a blizzard rather than drive straight home even though I know the storms only going to get worse while I’m in the gym … big up to everyone in this thread and even those who don’t contribute and only read … you’re making the necessary steps none-the-less
I have pain in the shoulder on incline bb press even with my elbows tucked.
And if you were to stop a few inches off the chest and reverse the movement there? (control the bar down, don’t make this a ronnie-coleman movement)
Other than that, describe the pain in more detail… Where exactly do you feel it etc… Maybe some fundamental issue with your setup, ever tried to use less weight and just wiggle around until you’ve found a more comfortable position/grip/etc?
Dude there’s a good chance that you’d fuck your shoulder up for good if you do heavy bench-pressing now… Just let it heal man… Maybe some high reps with the bar or so…
Well you could just use it as another 20 repper exercise… Or even do 50 reps on it, doesn’t really matter.
That way you don’t always have to use the hacksquat and your knees get a bit of a break…

Yeah man I know I could fuck it up royally if I do anything, that’s why I am sadly taking the day off from lifting.
Yeah I was thinking I could just use Leg Press for a 20 repper when I Hack Squat or if I start to BB squat again. I don’t want to 20 rep BB squats…lol

Can’t really help you all that well from afar…

I was going all the way to my chest on the incline bench. I’ll try limiting the ROM.
Ok, so I’m sitting my at my desk right now, if i take my arm and pretend to do a dumbbell fly while sitting here, the pain is in the back of my right arm and goes down the back of my arm. Does that make sense.
I’ve had a lot of issues with it from playing volleyball. I screwed it up many years ago and it’s never been right since then. It was bad enough that I could barely lift my arm for weeks. Of course I never saw a doctor about it. So, it’s probably just something I’m going to have to put up with.
I think if I really concentrate on stretching it out, it will reduce the symptoms.

Mhhh… If you were to do standing or seated overhead extensions with a DB, would you get the same feeling?
Standing Alternating DB Curls
25²x16
30²x8 50²x8+5+5=18 Gorilla curls
20x16
40x8 60x11 Standing IM2000 calf raise
126x12
196x12 246x11 DB stiff-leg deadlift
50²x12 90²x10+8+6=24
SLDL’s rest-paused? BB front squat
45x12
95x6
135x4
185x2 235x4
190x10+5+5=20
The front squat widowmaker isn’t rest-paused either, unless you just write it that way. It’s a form of RP of course in that you take some breathers in between reps later in the set…
I rest-paused the SLDL , no one said it’s supposed to be straight setted and as for the widowmaker, I know…I wrote it because I had to catch my breath.
Edit:
How do you respond within a quote without your response getting grayed out?

You need to type /quote (you must do it with those brackets: around) within the quote to basically “end it”. Then type in your response. Then response type in quote (and brackets around).
SLDL’s are straight-setted (all big hamstring exercises are, leg curls and such are rest-paused though). There is a special protocol for it (which I actually don’t use because I didn’t know about it either)… Ask ScottM to explain it to you.
Fucking gym closes at 4pm today and I will most likely be at work until at least 4…so unless I get out of work really early (not likely) then that means I can’t hit back today. And I brought my heavy-duty backpack to put weights in so I could Rack Chin too!
Also the gym is closed all day tomorrow so that means I have to wait all the way till Friday and then hit Back and Arms on the same day. Oh well its not like I can do any hardcore shit for my arms thanks to my shoulder (ie no CGBPs, Smith RGBs, etc…)

i guess im gonna have to do arms today since the gym is closed tomorrow.
Yeah a couple months back I had a 510 deadlift, but only a 305 bench. We just have a bunch of us here that suck at benching apparently. Though I haven’t benched in about 2 months now.
However…I did hit 20 1 arm-pushups per arm today, along with 18 body-weight chinups (as usual, dead stop at bottom, no swing), which is 6 reps better than 6-7 weeks ago. Only 2 to go.
Dre I hear ya, this weather in NH is terrible also. We have over a foot of snow right now, I almost killed myself coming back from work a couple days ago, spent 30 minutes shoveling myself out on the side of the interstate, then another 30 minutes shoveling out a lady that did the exact same thing on the other side of the highway. Took me a total of 2 hours to get back from work that night…usually it takes me 25-30 minutes. Whores.

not only do i suck at benching, but my bench went DOWN which is what i am more shocked about than anything. i used to be able to bench 225 for at least 5, hell i did that when i weighed 190, now im a little over 200 and i can bench less? makes no sense lol.
