I don’t understand the backlash against this poster. I don’t care how good the story was or how well the movie was put together, It’s still about a couple of butt-pluggin’ cow-pokers (or is that cow-pokes).
Besides, the article is just someones opinion. Maybe it is off base and closer to conspiracy theory than reality. I don’t know because I am not a student of cinematography and I certainly will not be seeing the movie. All that aside you have to realize that homosexuals are a minority in our society so why would a Hollywood studio take on a project that they didn’t think would appeal to the mass market and risk loosing millions of dollars, possibly even tarnishing their reputations? The film was a success because of controversy, but it could have just as easily flopped because of that same controversy. To say that there was no intent whatsoever to promote a gay agenda is to naively fail to consider all of the possibilities as to why this movie was truly produced. The movie was certainly not produced because it was a guaranteed money maker.

But the part of your argument that is really disappointing is that you do not seem to acknowledge that people have been persecuted for what they are - whether they had a choice in their otherness or not. Homosexuals have been subjected to violence, discrimination and were put into concentration camps just like jewish people (a religious choice, not a biological classification either). The fact that there were (are) enough assholes around them to make their lives miserable is what makes minority groups comparable - whether their otherness is based on choice or not.
So even if it were their choice, gay people have a right not to be prosecuted, which any true freedom-loving democratic humanist should defend.
