Let me rephrase that. I am someone who can make your brain implode within a 100m radius by using my qi. How do you think we took out Bruce Lee?

No match for my fist of the North Star
Ok, so as promised to my Chinese chum, here’s what I ate yesterday, it’s a fairly typical day:
Meal 1
-250g chicken breast
-100g rice (weighed uncooked)
-1 avocado
This is about 70g protein, 80g carbs and I think 30g of fat roughly from the avocado. Cronometer puts it at about 1000 calories but I’m not sure, seems a little high.
Meal 2 - same as meal one
These were meals eaten cold out of tupperware while I was at work. It was a split shift working in the morning then back in the evening.
Meal 3 - Awesome leftover thai style curry thing I made the night before with loads of awesome shit in it that I can’t be arsed to list. It suffices to say it was awesome. The macro breakdown would’ve been something like:
-70g protein (another 250g of chicken)
-A medium sized sweet potato which is probably about 40g carbs (plus a few more carbs from various vegetables)
-40g of fat from coconut milk.
Those are estimates really, but to be honest when I cook something awesome like that I don’t worry too much about the macros, I just make sure it’s got loads of awesome shit in it. I’ll share the recipe if anyone’s interested.
Snack when I was back at work:
-100g cooked turkey (out of a packet. Bleurgh, just needed something to munch on when I was back at work for a little while)
-100g blueberries
Last meal of the day:
-250g sirloin steak (cooked to perfection)
-100g rice (weighed uncooked)
-100g olives
-100g blueberries
I wouldn’t normally have rice with the steak but I forgot to buy more sweet potatoes so I had to make do. The olives and blueberries were supposed to be for snacking on the next day at work but I was hungry so I ate them. Thug life.
Cronometer puts my calories for the day at about 4500. Not sure I believe that. I don’t think I would have been above 4000 but maybe, I dunno. I eat a lot of fat.
So that’s a typical day of eats for me. A couple of boring, cold, dietetic lunches when I’m at work, something awesome I cook up with loads of vegetables and whatever, a steak based meal at some point in the day, and I snack on berries, nuts, olives etc.

Nah, man, bent press is totally a whole body builder. All bodybuilders should do it, look at my undeveloped body if you don’t believe me.

Oh ok lol.
I think the important thing about doing deadlifts while avoiding lower back pain is to not lose tension between reps. This does not mean you have to do them touch and go.
*I’ve stopped doing them btw. Prefer rack pulls now. Much easier on my lower back.
Funny you say that, but I have been pretty much just dropping my reps from the top position, then spending a good 10-15 seconds getting tight as hell against the bar before my next rep.
Rack pulls would be a much better option for me but I just really want to be able to deadlift again. The semi-sumo stance seems to be perfect for me so far.
Rack Pulls would work for sure. Much less stress on the lower back.
Has anyone else noticed they are weak as fuck from shins to above the knee on rack pulls, and just feel overall vulnerable from there? I got injured doing rack pulls a couple years ago so that may explain it, although I’ve always sucked at them.
how does your back feel doing bent over rows? My back seems to have an angle where it’s weak as fuck, which is about the angle you do bent over rows from. I’m hoping deadlifts will fix it.
My back feels good on rows with both very upright and very bent over postures and with kroc rows. Your idea does sound pretty good though, if anything is weak in your back (erectors, lats, traps, etc) then getting stronger on heavy rows will help.

I feel this boils down to deadlifting style in most cases. Some folks are explosive deadlifters and essentially rely on momentum to blast through sticking points, and so when you put them in a position where they have to grind, you find an area where they haven’t been developing a lot of strength. Others are grinders who pull 315 about as fast as they pull 600, and are better suited for partial ROM stuff.
The first pretty much sums up my style. I pull with a very close stance and rounded upper back and rely very heavily on the momentum I get off of the floor from my leg drive.
Nice! So you never did try the century eggs?

I moved to a new city before I got the chance, and haven’t found anywhere that does them here.
I will though, for sure!
What about you, man? What does your diet and training look like? I seem to remember you were saying you were like a ripped 210 or something crazy like that.

Lol. That was 10 years ago with a lot of drugs. Recomped @190lbs, then when up to 210lbs over 2 years. Lean but not ripped. I just have a tiny waist(bone structure). Couldn’t maintain that size when I started doing business because of the stress and the stigma about being big correlating with being stupid was much worse at that time, especially in an Asian society. Plus the worst part, eating was a fucking chore. Currently in the 180s. Not planning to go above 90kg ever again. Why the fuck aren’t we using the metric system in here?
I eat the same things everyday. Big Macs, steak and weightgainers. A bit of extra stuff here and there. That’s it. Training is probably the same as your’s without the pre-exhuasting.

I completely agree… The commute, the rent, the air pollution… I started lifting when I lived in London because my life was too dark to take it.

What’s wrong with London?
dt79 wrote:

I should probably add that I went through a breakup while I lived there. The point about London is this: if you’re an outsider who recently moved there, you’re on your own. The winter (I moved there in late September and things hit rock bottom in December) is dark, wet and chilly, with no snow to cheer you up. It is a dreadful place to be in when you’re in a bad mood to begin with. That’s my personal story.
(Two more objective downsides are that it is expensive and crowded.)

I’ve lived “near” London for about 5 years, and I wouldn’t live there if you paid me. It’s like New York but with worse accents, expensive, overcrowded, dirty and full of arseholes. Too much for a country boy to take.

quite a similar tale to mine, as it happens. I’ve the genetics to eat like that and stay lean, too, but my digestive health isn’t great so it’d fuck me up after a week or two.
Weirdly, the only time we don’t use the metric system in the UK is when discussing body weight or illegal drugs.
these London sentiments are exactly like mine. Too busy, too expensive, too long a commute in the morning.
It’s a great city to spend a few days getting fucked up in, though
So how about some actual training updates, eh?
120k x 5 easy reps on deadlifts. Back felt fine, and had a mate of mine critique my form which he said was good. I mean obviously I’d expect it to be good at this weight, but it’s worth knowing all the same.
Finished off leg day with
-4 sets GHR
-4 sets walking lunges
-4 sets leg extension → leg press superset (trying to get maximum volume for my quads in the minimum time)
Are you sure it’s wise to add extra exercises while doing Stronglifts?

Haha still no back squats either. Completely turned his focus towards deadlifting.
New opening remark:

I think I’m sexier than you.
but I don’t back squat, nor will I. I will deadlift instead.
wish me luck.

Lol I think I know what’s happening. He’s sourcing for micro plates for the bench and squat first in case the consecutive jumps in weight get too big to handle on Stronglifts. Wait, maybe he’s doing ICF 5 x 5.
