I’ve been wearing Vibrams for years. Just be careful starting out though. I ran consistently for about 3 months in them with no problems, (except some calf pain from the absorption of the impact) then decided I would run 11km. I had problems with the tendons on my feet for about 6 months after that. I couldn’t stand on my toes, and had problems putting pressure on my midfoot.
Now, they are great, and I use them all the time when I run, squat, dead. Highly recommended.
Yeah I don’t think they’re good for long distance or high impact stuff; there’s no way they’re good for EVERYTHING, just as no shoe can be good at EVERYTHING.
Normal walking around and lifting? Sure. I am about to buy a pair, the new ones I think call Trek and with the stretchy material over the arch; the sole looks like a tire.
I do think shoes need to be switched around every so often so your foot doesn’t get too used to it, just like you should swap our orthodics every once in a while (if they’re insoles, not the prescription kind which don’t go flat).
Bre,
Find the video on Google Video of the old dude sitting down and using a heavy power band (I think it’s purple colored) wrapped around his ankle; he does some cool mobility drills. The band acts as resistance and he tilts his foot in each direction against the resistance. I’ll try to find it. I want to start doing those.

Yeah, I was thinking about getting mobility bands for my shoulders too (bench warm up) re:t-n article.
also my butt hurts from X2 glute circuit. Can someone else get a beer crate and do that circuit x2 and tell me if it’s too easy and me glutes really are super weak?

ima show you that black people CAN get bruises ![]()
As a veg, I have no comment on the cow-n-pig controversy. Keep up the good work on the glutes. Anything that leaves your ass that sore is probably good for you. Happy V-Day.

Since you all are on the subject of feet/shoes… There is a bit of a trend going on at one of the suburban commercial gyms that I train at sometimes. People are wearing those shoes that have toe pockets. Look kinda like gloves on your feet. Ever seen them?
vibrams!! everyone in T-Nation loves vibrams. and there are some guys in germany with them. I’ve never tried them. Beast swears by them… I think.
I don’t make a habit of swearing by any one product. But, I really love my Vibrams. They suit me fine for all indoor activities. I won’t dare do any trail running in them, as I have to wear an ankle brace for that stuff, hence, sneakers or boots.
There is definitely an adjustment period with them if you are running, but otherwise, it’s just like going barefoot. The sizing is done in cm’s if I remember correctly. Or, you just measure your feet with a ruler in inches, and they have a conversion on the website. I’ll check. The website is www.vibramfivefingers.com.

I like them…
The WORST shoes I ever had were the ‘negative heel’ shoes called ‘earth’ I think. I was wearing them for a while as a cocktail waitress and I started to get really strange knee pain. The concept was something like - what if you were always walking in sand. Well, then I guess your knees would hurt.
I probably wouldn’t get vibrams because I need a lot of arch support. I tend to roll in. I really like the Reebocks. Mostly because my toes are staying relaxed, she shoes are very cushiony, and I’m not constantly gripping at the floor like I usually do in clogs. I think they will help my feet get better for sure. I dont know if they’d be good for running though, they’re kind of heavy.
That circuit looked tough…enough to make anyone sore!
give yourself some credit there…

Your comment about foot issues reminded me of your question about my injury. My issue didn’t arise from emplacing my foot in someones ass, but from a fish tank. I think I told you about this already, but as a young, bright, inventive 9 year old, I needed someplace to sit for the game show “Win, Lose, or Draw.” The cast of 21 Jump Street was on it. As we didn’t have any furniture in the living room, and the floor was good about putting splinters in my behind, I grabbed something I could sit on: a 30 gallon fishtank. Seconds after sitting on it, I found myself on the floor with lots of glass and a large section of my lower leg mixed in. Detached, of course. So, after surgery and months of healing and rehab, I now have little to no feeling in some parts of my foot and lower leg, very little movement in my foot, and even less movement in my toes.
My love of the Vibrams stems from my martial-arts/fight training, where I am always barefoot. I’m comfortable going barefoot. These are the next best thing.
