If by “screaming” you mean that it’s a normal level of soreness: training through it won’t kill ya.
If you mean “Hurts way worse than normal soreness”: it might be a good idea to at least rest it some, allowing it to recover before beating your hamstring’s ass again.
Just my $0.02[/quote]
unfortunately - it’s bad pain, not good pain. I like working out when I am sore… but this is definitely injury pain. I think I need recs on my form…
Rowing is a good leg workout… it gets my glutes too
Deciding when to train through pain is tough. I’m sure most will say to never do it, but I think it can be great rehab. I used to have chronic back pain from probably around 12-13. It wasn’t until working out and training DLs through the back pain that my back just got stronger and now I’m pain-free.
But the decision is yours. Of course there’s the possibility that you make it worse.

Maybe take a little rest from training hamstrings directly, and then when you get back into the full swing of things, video your form for advice
I think the last 10 days have been really solid workouts. Yeah, just bodyweight and rowing, but not sore joints. Starting tomorrow I will start throwing in one compound lift/week while continuing strength training. Rowing is helping me connect my lats, traps and shoulders, and is also giving a balanced workout to quads, hams, glutes. Moreover, my power is starting to improve in sprints. I find the sprints to be very addicting And so I’ve started interval training. Up to one minute sprint with 20s rests x 10. This really kicks my ass, but it’s an awesome rush that I can get after warming up with 8-20min steady state (mod heart rate) work out.
Yes the goal is to get big and strong, but somehow I feel like rowing is safer in the beginning to get all my muscles warmed up and activated. And body weight is self limiting and therefore I am less likely to injure myself using weights. But as opposed to before, where I was lifting heavy every day, I need to only lift heavy 2-3x week because that’s about the limit that my body can take in terms of recovery. Of course I wouldnbt be saying all this crap if I hadnt injured my hammy a month ago, but you have to adapt to succeed…
WOW!!! SORRY GUYS! Since Festivus I was in Milwaukee, Chicago, Minneapolis, Nashville, New York, sick, and now back in G-town… SO. I’m going back to the gym as of today! right now!!! 2011 is going to be BIG. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE… I missed my T-Nation forum friends.
Hey!!! The hammie is ready to rock and roll…looks like it just needed a lot of boozing to get better! I’m going to go easy on her though. I dug up some of my old records and saw that I had this same injury back on the crew team as well, so contrary to T-Nation opinion, I’m making YOGA a priority.
Workout Today:

4min rest
split time: 2:14/500m (3100m) (increase stroke volume to between 26 - 30 str/min) 14:00min - miracles happened the last 1000m and I felt amazing. Row ZEN is sooooo addicting.
