Hey guys, just figured somebody might be able to tell me what the hell is wrong with me.
So about 2 years ago, whenever i would lay down or sit down or just do nothing morealess, i would have real trouble getting a deep breathe in. like i would have to almost try to yawn a few times to get a deep breathe, i would go for about 30 seconds like this and then i would get a deep breathe in…then i’d be fine for like 2 minutes. Then it would start all over again.
It went away for a long time and now its back and its worse than before. It happens like all the time.
Other info, 18 year old male, 6’2 255 16% body fat (people here like to know that) play CIS football (university football in Canada) and I’m in damn good shape
and i know people will say go to the doctor and i have an appointment for next friday, just wanted to see if anybody had any ideas.
I have had the same symptoms off and on for years. I went to a doctor for it years ago and they never really found anything. Now I can’t or wouldn’t want to say that this is the same in your case. Yes you should go see the doc. In my case it seems to be either allergy related, or more likely it is a stress thing caused from any of the things that stress me. It seems to help if I ease back on my workouts a bit. For me it is a terrible feeling when I can’t get my breath. It almost makes me panic because I feel like I’m suffocating. I have had good luck using a spirometer when the symptoms come around. If you are not familier with what a spirometer is it is basically a small breathing apparatus that teaches you to how to breath deeply. Mine was inexpensive but I got it from the doctor years and years ago. I really can’t pinpoint exactly what causes it for me but it does seem to be somewhat seasonal, but then those times are also stressful work times too so I am not sure. Hope this helps, even though I didn’t really give you much of an answer. Get it checked it out because it could be serious and you’re always best to get on top of things as fast as possible. Hope all turns out well.
I have the same thing here. I made a post about this over a year ago. I went to 3 doctors and nada. I passed 3 stress tests with flying colors. Chest x-ray showed nothing abnormal. For me its a combination of two things one is definitly and allergy. The air going in through my nose is not as free flowing. The second cause is definitly stress releated. Once the “stress” was exorcised a year ago or so, they subsided. Now its reduced to mostly an allergy of some sort. I wake up with the difficulty breathing sometimes when I have the window open and the fan bringing air in. Although getting ready for a test for school does make it occur but nothing like what it used to be. The first time was the scariest. I was driving with a friend and I thought I was going down. It was that bad.
I think Buffy is right on the mark. When I was younger I used to have the same thing. I went to several doctors and none of them got it right. I went through so many tests I felt like Frankenstein.
One day I was home sick from work and bored out of my skull, so I was checking out day time TV, which sucks. I stumbled on to some talk show about anxiety and panic disorder. Everything they described was happening to me. Shortness of breath, tightness in my chest, pain in my arms, tingling and numbness to my fingers, my face going numb, I felt like I was going to blackout and I thought if I did pass out I was going to die. Impending sense of doom they call it.
On the talk show they introduced people that suffered from it that were able to control it just by reminding themselves they were not dying and to take slow deep breaths. In through the nose and out through the mouth slowly. Try to distract yourself from the attack by watching TV or go out and do something, anything to get your mind off of it.
Since then I have never had another episode because when I feel it trying to happen I just do the breathing and then focus on other things and seconds later it?s gone.
I hope this helps, if it doesn?t seek medical attention. Don?t play around with it for too long though it could be other things.
