Im new to the forums and decided to join based mainly from these brain booster threads and the clear knowledge and intelligence you have all given. Im a student whose studying in the physiotherapy department rather than any neurophysiology etc so my knowledge is vastly inferior to the rest of you, so sorry if I ask any basic questions (despite already doing some background research on some brain supplements).
I need to push my ability to the top of my class because I messed up this year and performed way below par this year. I’m willing to spend anything which will give me that extra edge, so far i’ve only decided on buying Vinpocetine (3 x 10mg daily), are their any other supplements you would recommend for me to start with.
Thank you to everyone’s insightful contributions to the threads and happy living!

Well, if you’re taking Vinpo it seems to be a good idea to go for a Vinpo+DMAE+aniracetam stack. BBB discusses it at least a couple of times across these threads if you want an expert explanation as to what why and how I’m taking that exact stack and am very happy with it so far.
That’s great help BIP.
I go gym most mornings before lectures start for the day, dosage wise would you say it’s best to take after gym before the lectures begin or when I first get up? I would rather have the benefits in the classroom rather than the gym because Im not looking for too much extra help in gym.

Again, BBB will be able to tell you more, but personally I take 2 caps of the stack (I believe it’s 15mg Vinpo each, plus the other goodies) with lunch, which is my post-workout meal. I then spend about 4-5 hours working really hard (at least in theory, but that’s the window when I’m very focused and get the best ideas).
You can experiment with other dosages. I’m a bit reluctant to do so myself, since I don’t eat breakfast most days and vinpo should be taken with food AFAIK.
I bought a pack of 4mg generic nicotene gum after reading Shugart’s little blurb on it. As the 4mg is the same price as the 2mg, I cut the pieces in half and dose 2mg at a time. I’ve tried several -racetams, caffeine, gingko, etc and this widely available smoking cessation aid trumps them all IMHO. Taken around the “slump hour” in the afternoon (2pm-ish) it clears the post-meal sluggishness and allows you to focus without the jitteriness that several cups of coffee induces.
I would imagine that one would have to be mindful of getting addicted to it, but I never find myself craving a piece, but with that said I do not have an addictive personality. As Chris points out you have to be careful with dosage as well - I tried a full 4mg piece once and felt nauseous.
I was thinking of nicotine gum but one issue is that I have an addictive personality (alcohol issues) as well as Im taking SSRI zoloft, so I dont know if that would be a good/bad idea.
Thanks BBB. I decided to try the protocol would outlined for help with my Chinese course and man, it’s making learning a new language THAT much easier. Thanks again.

BBB, do you feel that higher doses of CoQ-10 are worthwhile?
A most emphatic ‘yes’.

I’m trying out 1500 mg/day. Too much? Not enough?
Holy sh*t! Well I have never tried more than 500mg/day. That did work slightly better than 300mg/day, but I would doubt 1500mg/day would be worth it, given the cost of Q10.
Quality is better than quantity IMO, which begs the question: where are you getting your Q10 from and how much is it costing?
How long have you been running this and what have you noticed so far?
BBB
It’s the GNC brand. They mislabeled it and I got it for less than half of what it costs on sale. I have only been doing it for a couple days. I think I am going to back down to 600 mg/day just to see, but the first couple days at 1500 mg were… nothing to write home about. Then again, I didn’t get near enough sleep, so that’s my bad.

It will probably help out if you have a neurodegenerative disorder.
But if not, then as BBB says, probably not worth it.
I know there was a study done at one point with Parkinsons sufferers where the dosage was 3000mg daily over an eight month period.
What would be the best stack to take for somebody who occasionally stutters/stammers?
Sometimes my speech will be completely fluent and on-key, while other times I can’t get certain words out, especially vowels. This leads me to believe it is a neurological deficiency that is causing the problem.
When mental clarity and focus are up, my speech is fine.
When I am very nervous or my neurotransmitters are down due to too much alcohol, my speech is bad.

Have you ever had a doc/speech pathologist assess your issues?
That said, most nootropics are regarded as generally safe, so there’s no harm in seeing if some of the standard stacks might help (I find a slight increase in clarity when running full bore on my stack), though I suspect there are motor components that will not be affected by nootropics.
One of the most common stacks is:
Aniracetam: 2-3X ED 600mg
Choline source (dosage varies depending on source).
Vinpocetine: 2-3X ED 10mg

Some form of choline precursor. DMAE, Alpha-GPC, or maybethat centrophenoxine thingy they’re talking about.
My post isn’t worth much, but maybe something. Broscience loosely based on science is one way of describing it.
I found that taking aniracetam without taking enough DMAE or other choline precursors made my speech less fluent. Relative choline deficiency meant my parasympathetic nervous system and my cranial nerves didn’t get enough choline to work with and got weakened. I didn’t have the same control over my tounge and since my sympathetic nervous system got stronger in relation to the parasympathetic I got stressed more easily. Bigger pupils, higher resting heart rate too.
DMAE made it all better. I’m describing something that’s different from your problems, but maybe it could work for you too.
