BP Decreasing, SQ/DL Increasing During Cut

About a couple weeks ago, I started cutting weight for a meet on February 1st. I didn’t want to wait until the week before and use the starvation and dehydration method, so I just cut out carbs and sodium and I’m loading water. I’m about a pound away from my weight class.

My diet’s been mainly meat. I’ve made huge improvements on my squat and deadlift, but my bench stalled and actually went down about 15 pounds or so. Can anybody explain what’s going on? If it makes any difference, I weighed 130 at the start of the cut and now I’m 123-125. Thanks

A change in bodyweight means a change in mechanics. Be thankful your squat has gone up instead of going down, because that’s usually what happens when someone loses weight, lol.

If you are cutting carbs low enough then you probably are glycogen depleted, and are lucky to not lose much strength.

1lb away? That’s nothing. Don’t sweat it. Your bench will be fine come meet time. Weigh in as early as possible and then starting eating what you’ve not been eating. Don’t worry. You have plenty of time.

A pound away. haha You can still gain weight for comp. I kid. But like honestly a pound if you want to cut it pretty close you can probably just the night before weighins not drink any water and have a light meal wake up go to weigh ins and be in weight. As for the lose in strength, any time you cut you lose strength. It is actually crazy that you gained strength. Just go with it man. everything will be good.
