Box Squats...

Is it really that good? I guess I could pull together the cash as I’m sure it’ll benefit me more than supplements… but nonetheless, someone who owns it, let me know a bit more detail(the site doesn’t say too much).[/quote]

Buy it. I own it. Just buy it.

And keep practicing your form. Repetition, repetition, repetition. There are many stabilizing and balancing muscles that need to build some strength in a new squatter. Practicing form with light weight will accomplish this. Your form just sucks right now. It will get better. Trust me, I have been there.

Hey guys,
I’m getting decent and I’m ordering the index video from elitefts in 3weeks(I just spent my cashola on a dream theater concert thats coming up…). Anyhow, all is going well but I have some kind of odd problems. First of all, When I go down I go down crooked and when I come up, I come up crooked. Its definately not the weight, I can rocket the bar up no problem. Also, the bar isn’t just teetertottering, its my body rising kind of odd. Its not like its just crooked but like the bar is like this at one point:/ then it’ll go the other way like this:\ and back and forth as I go up and down.

Another thing; I’ve now read through Dave Tate’s Squatting from Head to Toe a good 5+ times and its wonderful but I don’t understand one part. It says to “force your knees out”. What does that mean? What does he mean by “out”? Forward or sideways or what?

What he is referring to is jam your knees outward when you are executing the squat movement. This is because people have a way of letting their knees go inward under the stress of the lift, which will screw you big time like shredding your knees internally. If you want to see what it’s all about, do this: sit on your box squat box, and put your hands on the outside of your knees.

Now, shove your knees out sideways while resisting them with your hands. Feel the tension in your hips? That tension will help you smoke that weight later. I train that hard so that I don’t have my knees caving in on me, as well as keeping that solid base. Get some bands, and you’ll see the exercise you can do when your DVD shows up. The index kicks ass, I own it and I know you’ll love it too. Good luck

Alright, thats what I though but wasn’t sure. ALso though, I have trouble going up and down/back smoothly, I go back teetertottering kind of.

Dude, it doesn’t matter how much you’ve read about lifting, if you’ve only been lifting for a couple weeks, you won’t know what good form is for a while. Just suck it up, do the squats and in due time you will find out how to correct your form

I agree, box squats are easy to learn, hard to perfect. I know for me I have to constantly think about my form on every single rep. One tip I would have is to just focus on one thing each work out. For instance, focus on spreading the floor one day and the next focus on keeping a super tight arch. There are so many things to think about that you can get lost if you try to do it perfectly. Just focus on a few basic things until you perfect that, then you won’t have to think about it at all after a while.

Its strange though, I can do normal squats just fine without even thinking about it but I have such a hard time with box squats.

Just imagine though, once you get the box squat form down well, how good your free-squat form and poundages will be!!

Damn… At the thought of me lifting big weights I just about blew me load. God that sounds so nice…
