Bound Up in Briefs

My first time in briefs i had no problems pulling, even in a belt. Last night however, i put a belt on and couldnt seem to bend at the hip. I was stuck bent over and couldnt get my butt down to start the pull. without the belt it wasnt really a problem. Anybody have any ideas as to what could be causing this?

They may not be seated high enough.

Maybe not broken in yet

What kind of briefs are you pulling in? I honestly cannot stand pulling in my double ply metal briefs. It fucks with my pull to much since I like to grip and rip my pulls. The last time I pulled in my single ply viking suit though, I got a solid 50 lbs out of it thought. I know a good number of lifters who find too much gear to be a hindrance when pulling. Food for thought.

I get a solid 170 lb out of my single ply titan squatsuit when pulling sumo. When you get used to tight gear it can really help in the sumo stand.

Bullshit.

No. Or, well, I haven’t actually maxed sumo raw, but the heaviest I’ve done is 4x1@160kg, and the last single was close to failure, I’ve done 260kg with more in the tank with the suit on.

I’m pulling in metal pro briefs as my squatter is being exchanged. Most times it’s not a problem but the last session was. I’m think about pulling suitonly once it gets here. The briefs are tight but not “gangsta” tight

What type and size suit is that? What’s your hip size? What size squat suit do you wear?

The old titan centurion. I don’t really know, what my hip measurment is, I can measure it later. It is a size 40, but I’ve taken it like an inch in by the hips/legs and something like 6-8cm in the straps. I weigh 89-90kg.

It is the same suit, that I do both squat and deadlift in here.

WTF? I wear the same suit, size 42 (that’s been taken in), so it’s probably closer to a 40 than it is a 42, and I’m between 210-215 and I get about 75lbs out of it for the DL. That said, the straps are pretty loose. But still, tightening the straps is going to give me another 100lbs.

Rrjc5488 - It depands on your weakness. I’m very weak off the floor, but very strong at the top. If you’re weak at the top it will not help you as much. It is no special suit, just me being weak off the floor sumo. I’ve done 242.5kg raw conventional stance, so I’m ok at that, sumo just sticks to the floor. Maybe in time I’ll get stronger of the floor, and then, of course, I will not get as much carryover. Tightening the straps might give you 10-20lb depending on form, not 100.
