Boring But Big Variation II

Hey,

You say below “Variation I” in Beyond 531-book that you do not recommend anything else then doing the same exercise with 531 and BBB for Variation 1.

Variation is 2 is supposedly abit “easier” and you dont mention this there in the book, i would interprite that as it would be ok to do opposite exercises with that variation?

cycle 1: 5x10 @ FSL (65%)
cycle 2: 5x8 @ FSL (70%)
cycle 3: 5x5 @ FSL (75%)

I really like the opposite exercise layout, thats why im asking alot about it, if you noticed.
Ive been doing 6 weeks challenge BBB and and soon done with it, ive been doing opposite exercises there and its awesome.

Thanks

Nope, read the bold lettering in the var2 paragraph. If you like the opposite layout try another template.

“Your training schedule (template) would be EXACTLY the same as the Boring But Big Variation (listed above)…” in reference to Variation I

Read the section before the variations: “Training Templates for all Boring But Big Programs”

In the book, under the variation 1 spreadsheet Jim says “I can only recommend you use template one, do NOT use template two”

With the above set/reps I don’t recommend doing the opposite exercise. You can do whatever you want but you asked my opinion.

thanks

tsantos bro you always said ask a question if I got one.this may sound stupid.

I have done 5x5 vartion at 80% and now almost done with the 5x3 @90%. can I ask what is the pupose of this type of cycle? is it the volume or the intensity that will help with strength output?

I have two partners who train with me using this template and many other are saying wow that a lot of volume blah blah blah shaking there heads. getting tired of this. please give me a good response for these mofo’s please for why this is being done. or if jim wants to add a response that be great also.

I know its the volume and the intensity that will get you stronger but the guys complain about how this is too much and this is insane and crap like that.i have no problems with this im following stuff as written. I want the end result response to give them why we are doing this.

please help.

Using 5 x 3 is for strength. The volume isn’t that much.

The purpose of 5/3/1 is to hit 5/3/1 not paralyze yourself over which BBB assistance you should use

If your training partners think 5 x5 is too much, then they shouldn’t do it. Do 5 x 10 x 60% or 5 x 5 x 70% of the training max which should be 90% of your true 1 rep max.

Even if you do 5 x 5 at 70%, you will still build strength.

Stop overanalyzing, it’s not going to make a difference if you do 70 or 80% just hit the 5/3/1.

Jim lays out a number of different BBB programs, try one, stick with it for a cycle or 2. If it works, great, it not, use another.
