Think of it as one of those Spaghetti Westerns where the protagonist kicks ass, but he never gives his name, explains his past, or explains his skills.
I watched the movie, it rocked. I have a question I need answering. Did anyone else get the idea that Eli was blind?
I mean I didnt think about it until after the movie but the bible was a braille bible. He always talked about smells and sounds. Had really acute senses. Then when the blind woman was with Carnegie she could smell his wound. So it was similar to Eli.
I see some of you already commented on that. Seems obvious to you but I didnt notice him having trouble doing anything that a blind person would have had trouble with. When he got into the fight in the bar? come on that was insane! Who was he? Dare Devil?
Anyways, we digress.
Hitler sucked we agree. (dont remember that from the movie but true all the same)
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs looks dumb (cause I do judge by the cover)
Avatar is unarguably great. Filled with politics also but no one give a rats ass.

How’d Solara get out of the water cave?
How does someone get shot, left for dead, and then start walking?
How does the Bible have power to conquer and control?
I give it 3.5/5 but would give 4/5 for the first 2/3 of the movie. Then it became lame.
The bible was symbolic for how man uses religion for corruption.
THIS. This is all. At the end, when we found out it was a Braille Bible, was DIVINE JUSTICE. Faith, religion, anything that believes in a pure, good, higher power, can only be revealed to those who BELIEVE. Gary Oldman didn’t believe, he wanted it for the control it could give him, the riches it would bring. In the end, those who BELIEVE will find the true meaning of faith/religion. Now, I say this being a very NOT religious person. I have never been baptized and have real issue with needing a “savior.” Yet, I believe in a higher power, I believe in angels. I have felt the Angel of Death. This movie was awesome and I will definitely be buying it on DVD. Describing faith as something you know even though you don’t know you know, is the most accurate definition I’ve ever heard. This was an awesome movie.

Hell, if anything, this movie reminds me of the Matrix trilogy and the “religious” undertones in it. Oh well. And I happen to like Keanu and Cage movies, as well. Just saying… lol
I wasn’t saying their movies sucked. I love plenty of their movies!
I understand that actors should be cast to play the roles they are good at- Denzel the badass, etc. But Cage just isn’t good at his role. Every movie, no matter if he is making something like Con Air, the Rock, or Gone in 60 Seconds- he is the EXACT same awful actor. No emotion for most of the movie, has the weird “flip out,” the emotional slow turn to the camera and he is horrible at delivering his lines. I used to like him because I liked the movies and I thought liking the story = liking the actor. I have since learned better.

Best example: High Plains Drifter
Hate to agree with a young squirt like Wolly Bear but this is exactly what I thought of the movie. I enjoyed it a lot but then again I have always enjoyed westerns and that’s what this movie is - a remake of High Plains Drifter, set in the future.
Most poignant scene - Mila Kunis’ character jumps into Eli’s arms in the culvert after he rescues her by dispatching bad guys with his deadly accurate “six gun”. If that isn’t a scene out of an Eastwood western I don’t know what is.
I see you’re making good use of that Senior Citizen discount. Next stop for Push: The early bird special tomorrow morning at Denny’s.

And I’m glad your mom was able to get you into the Saturday afternoon matinee for the Children Under 16 discount. Or did you go with your aunt? You surely needed someone to help get you into an ‘R’ rated movie, right?
Or did you ride your bicycle to a Multiplex, meet up with some other junior high school boys, buy a ticket to see “Tooth Fairy” and then sneak over to “Eli”?
You’re just cranky because you got lost in the theater. We know you old people need help going down the ramps and finding your seat.
On the bright side, at least you got to see a movie in color! No more black & white for you. Last time you went to the movies, Clark Gable was an up and coming actor.

Didn’t read the entire thread but it sure is interesting how much hatred of Christianity and the Bible comes percolating out of a movie review thread.
It’s pretty funny actually. It seems some of the complainers missed things in the movie (like him being blind) due to complaining because the book had a cross on it. It was a good movie…and if the simple image of a religious book on screen sends you into a fit, maybe the problem isn’t the movie.
The one of the many reasons people HATE Christianity is because its based on a faith system that requires you to be accountable to God. Most people can’t agree with most of the 10 commandments or fornication or any of the many “rules” the Bible has.
Therefore have a movie that deals with anything Bible related and people get uncomfortable…there mind races…they see the bible…feel guilty and pissed off.
So even tho you get a movie that kicks tail and is awesome…if even an actor mentions God or Christianity people get pissed. I think its funny that you can have a movie based on some pretty terrible things…but have a movie with a faith…any really but particularaly christianiy…people get PISSED.
Just like the Tim Tebow comercial with focus on the family…it was a harmless commercial…yet people got pissed at that…not the many alcholic commercials obviously encouraging underage drinking.
Denzel does not play the same character in every movie…the Preachers wife was a way different character, Philly was a different character and so was Phelam 123, Training Day…soo yeah… I love how people who’ve never acted PROFESSIONALLY themselves can rant and rave about someones RANGE ROFLCOPTERSAUROUS

With one glaring exception: Leaving Las Vegas!
That was a fantastic flick and he should’ve never gone back to thin plot action movies after that

First of all noone has a problem with Christianity because as a Christian you are accountable to the Christiam god.
There is a problem when Christian think that other people are accountable to their god too.
Then, I do not have to be able to do something myself to know that I have seen better elsewhere.

So, you assholes are actually in theaters with actors on the screen who can perform like Denzel Washington belching out, “I’ve seen better!” at the screen?
If we were talking about Nick Cage and his lack of ability to pick good scripts (aside from Knowing lately), then I could see that response…but some of these people have more natural talent than that and Washington is one of them.
When I see Dakota Fanning act, I don’t say, “I’ve seen better child actors!”…because she’s good.
How the hell did some of you earn those “elite film critic” diplomas?
