Bone Spur in Shoulder

Was having shoulder pain. An MRI showed a bone spur causing shoulder impingement. Doctor said at first to try some PT and meds to reduce inflamation. A week ago got a cortizone shot and a f/u appointment in 2 months. For those that have had similar problems, can the pain really get any better without removing the cause (the bone spur)? For those who have had one removed, what is the recovery period like?

Thanks for the note. I’m gong to an orthopedic sports medicine clinic that has a good reputation in our area for shoulder work. The doctor mentioned the decompression as a possible solution when he first looked at my MRI. Unfortunately with our convoluted HMO system, I think he is more or less forced to try conservative treatment before having to bill for surgery. The PT was actually very good and did help with some ergonomic issues I had from work as well as some muscle imbalance situations. I agree with you, based on what I can find, until the piece of bone is gone, the likelihood of problems is pretty good.

Thanks for the note, I’ll mess aorund with Google and see if I can find how it works.
