Bodybuilding: Triceps!

No shit! Awesome!

Bang! Pow! Bish! BUMP!

… for those who are interested in the RADICAL (and useful) idea of “direct arm work”.

^what a dumb idea Steely

Neutral grip dumbbell floor presses have been a savior for my triceps, as a main movement interestingly enough. Focuses predominantly on the triceps with very little delt/chest involvement.

I like these too (before the gym locked up the heavy dbs 110+…)

MarauderMeat posted a vid/pic of him using a “triceps bar” for benching for neutral grip. Looks cool. Looks effective as you can really load the weight.

Check out the movement at 4:10…these things gave me a greater stretch and pump than anything I’ve ever done, your tri’s feel like they are going to explode mid set. I had a guy from the Montana Grizzlies football team try them and he said the same thing.

thread derail/

what row variation are they doing in 5:10?

They doing that on an Assisted pullup machine? Interesting. Might have to check it out.

At the beginning, i saw the name of the video, and kinda expected some finger snapping/bursts into dance…

Yep, they are using an assisted pullup machine. I’ve done it with a med ball and without…personally I like it more without the med ball and leaning into the machine.

I think the key to the exercise putting so much stress on the tri’s is that the plane is completely fixed. You can’t move it around to get better leverages or change the path of movement like a cable pushdown…it stretches the hell out of your tri’s!

Edit: When I “lean into the machine” while doing these, I actually stand back a step or two and then lean forward until my shoulders are straight above the front edge of the pad.

Thanks for posting. Cool video and I’ve never heard that of that band before (Demon Hunter) so double win.

Hey fellas, just starting to get a slight nagging in the left elbow after doing tricep extensions with the ezbar. Any recommendations? Just warming up more?

I do my extensions like the pullover variations where you take it way past your head, can also be called PJR pullovers. People recommend sleeves??

Sleeves help for sure…

I’ve hurt me elbow a few times from extensions…nothing serious but enough pain to be annoying. I was too focused on how much I was lifting and reps got sloppy at the end of sets…Keeping more solid form and training with higher reps has helped, and I think sometimes small injuries are unavoidable. Something is always a little achy, just part of lifting.

Try using a false grip on skulls and play around with your hand position a bit, that seems to help with elbow pain.

edit: also gripping the ez bar at the wider grooves works better for some people

give the JM press a shot. it is similiar to a skull crusher but because of the drop of the upper arm, there isn’t nearly the pressure on the elbows.

i definitley use elbow sleeves on all tricep extension movements.

I’m a fan of not doing any sort of barbell or dumbbell extensions until my tri’s are already fully pumped. That helps tremendously with any elbow pain.

Yeah its not sore atm, it was just went flexing it outside the gym it hurt a little. Definately have to get some sleeves.

I actually found they hurt more with a closer grip, and definately lower reps.

I used the EZbar at one gym (weights 9kg) then another (weighs 13kg). The latter is longer, fatter and has a wider grip, and didnt aggravate my elbow, so will prob just use that gym i guess. Definately wider helps. Thanks

Will give JM press a shot. Any ideas for sleeves? I think ppl mentioned inzer? I have no idea.

If all else fails, will definately warm them up more. Might do some light tricep pulldowns before hand. Cheers.

How much weight are you guys putting up on tricep exercises? Stuff like PJRs, pushdowns, dips, etc?

how do you guys do close db incline press?, arms fully tucked or little flared? going straight up or in an arc? For some reason i feel them alot in my shoulders, infact it smokes my shoulder more then a military press lol

Bump

Good thread, +1 for steely! People don’t understand how important triceps are for awesome overall arm development.
