This is nothing more than an interesting aside, but today NatGeo had on a special about sumo wrestlers. I was a bit gape jawed to see the 327 pound reigning yokozuna out sprint a guy a hundred pounds lighter than him down a beach in the sand. He didn’t look like he was a potential Olympic medalist, but the ol boy was movin pretty good.

I wouldn’t lie to ya doc. In fact I’m going to capture that program when it’s on again, it was really interesting. I have no designs on a sumo build, but it was interesting nonetheless. Whatever else may be said about those guys I can’t imagine any athletic group being more committed to a goal than the pros fighting in Japan.

I was joking. Please read previous post.
I have no doubt that there are very muscular or downright heavy guys who can run fast, understand and learned the technique. I believe only self righteous sprinters would claim that ONLY sprinters who ONLY sprint understand sprinting and are good at it.

I knew you were joking, it was a tongue in cheek response. It was an eye opener for me. I would never have guessed that a guy who eats 10,000 plus calories a day and who was that bulky could move like that. I guess I never really thought of it. There were those rolled legs hammerin away. I chuckled out loud, like OH SHIT look at this guy go!
Look at D-line in NFL theres 300 lb guys running 5 flats 4.9 some of em…Thats damn fast for all that weight…fact is if you aint fast theres a reason for it in my mind. Means you was created to use more cunning and mind , then to be an all out physical being. Called evolution mayne.

Or it can be called, “a disturbance in the Darwin matrix”.
I used to get chased by black kids and mexican kids at school - well after school - all through elementary. I never got caught because I was lightning fast. Then all those kids were waiting on me when I got to junior high.
Puberty did very bad things to this little white kid’s speed. Mexican kids are a lot faster than you think.
Now I can only sprint if I am being chased.

I can’t remember off the top of my head, but Mo Green is like 5’9" 175lbs.Ben Johnson was about the same, and both of those guys look WAY bigger than their listed weights. The heaviest sprinter I can think of was the kid who played ball for Florida, I believe his name is Gatlin and he’s about 2 bills.[/quote]
Justin Gatlin.
In terms of the sprint with the Levrone vs Chambers I’d say the difference is huge. It’s only a 60m sprint with a 5-7m difference. That’s 10% and also if you look at their speed when they cross the line Chambers is way way faster. At a 100m or 200m (The two classical sprint distances) the difference would be gigantic.
But as some of you said, still a very good job by Levrone considering he weighs that much.

Now you’ve done it LOL!!!
I’ve heard somewhere that Ronnie Coleman can sprint hella fast, as in extremely fast for his bulk yet still a lot faster for people who look more nimble than him. I forgot where, though. Does anyone have a link?
