Bodybuilders & Big Guts?

LOL!

Another reason is malnutrition. Yes, lack of nutrition. Eat all the Doritos and Hot Pockets your body can handle, and you’ll still lack nutrition. That is why Ethiopian kids are seen on TV with distended bellies sticking out past their toes. Somehow it causes a fat storage around the internal organs which presses the abdomen forward, creating the “beergut” look. Not saying that’s the whole reason, but a portion of it in regards to the fat gut of BBers that are seen. It is likely actual beer gut too.
The Ethiopian kids you see on TV with this condition are not eating too much junk food. It is likely Kwashiorkor, or protein malnutrition.

It is hard to imagine a pro bodybuilder suffering from this as well.

You’re all dead wrong! This is a vacuum and some bodybuilders are just pregnant.

I just tried a vacuum. Is it meant to feel like I just ripped apart my side? That’s what it felt like. Like somebody had violated my hips.

Let’s not forget that Coleman has a base as a powerlifter. I am sure GH contributes much of it, but look at most powerlifters; they are thick all over, including the midsection.
This comes from heavy lifting, squats and deadlifts. They place stress on the core muscles, thickening them. This may not be the best thing for appearances, but a thick strong center is a must for heavy lifting.
as i know, powerlifters always breath in and hold all the air in their guts to improve spinal stability. that make their midsection “go out”, and coleman
is doing this during squat, i watch that in his training video.

most people attribute that to the use of growth hormone as a steroid(gh gut), it’s a powerful muscle builder/fat reducer…but it’s not like you can tell it to only make your biceps grow, the abs are muscles too…so they too will grow…i’ve also heard that it can cause facial bone growth as well as inner organ growth when overdoing it…so there you go
Don’t give people the wrong idea. GH is overpriced and is relatively ineffective.

It does make a difference if you are a Pro Bodybuilder and that extra little bit of help counts.

hmm yah i was thinking maybe the powerlifting method of keeping air in belly might contribute to belly?? though i would have no idea how that would make sense…and the vacuum method…actually works?? logic is?

Your ideas are mixed up, partially because of one or two people in this thread that were completely off base. Powerlifters don’t have thicker midsections because of air pressure. Your body is adaptive, therefore, someone who trains for more power moves will have a thicker base and midsection to support the weight lifted.

Not only that, but Ronnie Coleman is 300lbs at under 6 feet tall. No one that big is going to have a super tiny waist. Your body wouldn’t be able to support that much mass with the waist of someone much smaller. The rest of the bloating seen is due to many of the hormones used by pro bodybuilders. It isn’t just gh use but a combination of that and anabolics use due to more receptor sites along the gut wall. Before the term Gh Gut became popular, “roid gut” was used for decades previous.

Regardless, none of this concerns you in the least and everyone whose stomach sticks out a little even when defined is not on drugs. Some people are simply built differently.

Diaphragmatic breathing is about as likely to give you a gut as stretching your glutes and hams will give you a saggy ass.

They’re all pregnant.

Chuck Norris is the father.

This is the sickest crap I’ve ever read on T-Nation.
Posts like these make me doubt the value of the internet.
djoh615893, what is wrong with you?

nice vacuum. where can i get one?

actually the reason that ethiopians have the distended stomach is because they are getting so little protein in the diet that they don’t have enough albumin in their blood to keep the osmotic pressure up to keep the lymph from seeping out of the vessels walls. This causes the “water” to leak out and pool in their stomach, causing it to stretch and look pot bellied.

Kwashiorkor is the name given to it and bacteria also contribute, but that was impressive. Good post.

Thanks. I didn’t know the actual name for if, I just remember going over it in molecular biology we didn’t study the pathology of the disease, it was just a sidenote when we were looking at albumin.

The diaphragmatic breathing is called the “valsalva maneuver” if I remember correctly. I have experimented with it but after breathing in and holding I never had the gut-out effect. I won’t attempt to explain how it works to stabilize the trunk because I’m not exactly sure how and I don;t want to make some shit up and look stupid. I found it to be most effective to use and begin breathing out forcefully at the top 1/3 of the movement. I tried holding my breath throughout (which works for some people) but I just ended up seeing stars and feeling like crap.
