Dark skin helps a little bit on a hot day we all know that.
I wager that we also all instinctively feel the same about personality and sport, whether we like it or not.
What I’m saying is that racism is part of what we are. Having a black girlfriend for a long while I came to relise that it’s not something that should be ignored or denied. I was forced to see something in myself I didn’t like but could do nothing about. The racism in me was like discovering yourself being gay. Not nice or easy and I couldn’t change it. I still haven’t seen it change - only REMARKETED so the positives obscure the negatives.
That is why BruceLee was a kicker and not a lifter. It’s easier to go with the flow.
Society doesn’t want us to be happy. It wants us to work for it, tirelessly looking for recognition in our specialised roles. It wants balding white men to be in the boardroom and anyone foriegn looking in things like music.
It won’t go away, instead the ones at the bottom just fight to get higher, and someone else falls down to the bottom to take thier place. In the UK do the Polish overtake the Chavs, in the US do the Mexians overtake trailer trash?
I don’t think society can be classless.
Now, back to sport. Let’s face the controversy. Does race effect things?
First thing to say is this. There is more variation between individuals than race.
I’ll stick my neck right out and say that say of course I think race effects things. Look at Basketball!
What about the power effect of black music? Ever been to an R&B club and watch the black boys clear up the hunnies?
For me, to compete in that environment and on those terms is not a winning tactic. So I go in slightly HughGrant and that takes balls. Then you got your British accent and they’re sucking your dick come Sunday. That’s spin. And race is marketing.
So race helps in terms of marketing. Maybe you’ll get that coach you’ve always wanted, or the sponsership.
But what about the truth, the truth that really hurts? Perhaps all those dying in Africa haven’t been for waste when Kenyan runner #50 http://kenya.com/runners.html comes running on in?
I think that may be the truth, but it’s not healthy to let that belief limit you.[/quote]
I do not want to seem racist either, but I beleive fairly firmly that there is some difference in body type based on race.
Blacks are more athletic. Get over it. That is why there are so many in professional sports, becuase they are good at it. People who are crappy cooks generally don’t do the catering for the Hilton, so, it makes sense that in professional sports, those who are good are the ones that play.
I hope that I am not making any racist comments on this post.
I am also going to say that whites are possibly thicker/stronger, but not as athletic. I am basing this on personal experience. I am a steel worker, and the African-Americans in my plant are very tall, and very athletic, but very skinny. Most of us white fellers are around the 5’8"-6’2" range, and wider across the shoulders. This is possibly why it seems like there are more white/hispanic contstruction workers, and mechanics and the like. (hispanics are white in bone structure, and I hope no one accuses me of steryotyping hispanics as construction workers. I worked for a few weeks as a construction worker, and the 5 white men on the crew were either ex-cons or white trash. The two Hispanic fellas were the nicest people I have worked with, and one of them was 6’0"even, but was fucking strong.)
And, one more slight sterotype, I beleive that asians have a lot more dexterity. That is why they are sort of the birthplace of martial arts. I have also never heard of ninjas being white or black either, ven though ninjas aren’t really real.
Something else I have noticed, It seems like kansans are wider and shorter then other people. It could be that Trailer houses have short ceilings, and it is easier to pick up hay bales when your strong and not tall.
Question- Have there ever been asian competitors at WSM, and have thier ever been African Competitors?
