Did you say 325 way going to be your opener? Looking at that one, I’d say it’s a good pick. You want something light, especially being your first meet. When in doubt, go lighter on a opener

Jake- Thanks a lot. I’m kind of to the point where I always wanted to be (LOL) where I have the vein running down my Bi with the little upside down “Y” going on all the time. I knew a kid in highschool who had that and when I first started working thats all I wanted hahaha. What a dork huh?

Da Champ- I was thinking of hitting some “light” DL’s on monday and then not doing any until the meet. Maybe working up to 405 or something for a few singles? You think i should take the entire week off? That would mean I wouldnt have DLed in 12 days leading up to the meet (if my math is correct) thanks for the kind words. I really think I’m looking the way i’m looking now due to a few factors. 1- I’ve been eating MDD style 90% of the time and its great. 2- I’ve actually been training FOR something with a deadline in mind. Helping a lot IMO. (obvi the gym pump helps too lol)

Viking- Welcome to the log. you pulled a 36lb PR in your first meet? That is amazing!!! You’re the man. I would love to do something like that. My plan is to go kinda conservative on the 1st attempt. Push to what I consider my max on attempt number 2 and then go for broke on number 3.

LarryDavid- Thanks LD and welcome to my log. I usually update more and have more stuff to share but this week is crazy. Drop any tips if you got em. I’m always open for critiques/advice.

Bug- it kinda felt heavy but not bad. I was definitely happy with it. The pause really kicks my ass but I feel like I’m kinda getting the hang of it.

Matty- Dialing in my form has made things so much smoother. I wish I had a chance to go to one of his seminars like we were talking about but I’ll have to settle for the youtubes. Its funny cause I video my working sets and then watch them immediately afterwards to see how things looked and see what I need to change… I get lots of funny looks at the gym for that lol

Ink- Thanks bro brah. I feel like things are coming together but right now i DEFINITELY am looking forward to this deload week. My body is pretty sore all over and I need it. I like your plan for the meet week. I’ll go over my week outline in the main body of this post so let me know what you think. As always, thanks for the tips, critiques and kind words.

Ok so today will be my last “real” training day before the meet. I leave early tomorrow morning for my bachelor party. I’m going to hit squats today and just like I did on DL and Bench, I’m going to do my prescribed 531 numbers and but after the 1 rep I’m going to work up to a heavier single. My last set of squats today is 380. So depending on how that feels I might go for a single at 405 and then see whats up from there.

My plan is to hit the gym HARD today and then I’ll be off Friday-Sunday… Glycogen stores should be fully stocked come monday morning LOL. Monday I’ll get in the gym and warm up, get loose and limber and then work up to my openers for the meet. Tuesday I’ll probably do some cardio and then hit some light (nothing over 60-70%) upper body stuff to get the blood flowing. Wednesday I’ll hit some light legs (really light) just to keep things loose and then no more lifting after that.

The meet is on a Sunday so that will give me 3 light days and 3 off days leading right up to it which should be good I think? (if i’m off base here someone let me know)

Right now I’m thinking about my openers and I’m looking at something like this:
Squat:
Open with: 365. I know I can hit that any day of the week and twice on sundays (good thing cause the meet is a sunday) Baa Dum Pschh
Second attempt: 405? We’ll see how the squatting goes today and decide on that.
Third attempt: Depends on how that 405 goes obvi but maybe something close to 440?

Bench:
Open with: 295-300 maybe? I want to make sure and nail that first one. My original bench goal for the meet was hoping to hit 325 but yesterday that was not too hard so maybe I’ll go higher than that?
Second attempt: Close to that 325. Depends on how 300 feels (obvi)
Third Attempt: maybe 340? something like that

Deadlift:
Open with: 405. thats heavy enough to be an ok opener but there is no chance of a failure on that rep.
Second attempt: 445 I know I can hit this. Hoping the cumulative fatigue doesnt get me here though.
Third attempt: 475 maybe? That would be a 20lb PR if I hit it. Might be a bit lofty but who knows. Its gonna depend on how the previous reps go. If I’m nailing PR’s on my 3rd attempts and riding high with confidence maybe I’ll hit it?

Ok so thats my rough outline of a plan right now. If I hit the 3rd reps as prescribed above those would all be PR’s. I know I can hit 4,3,4 on my lifts its just a matter of how much extra I can get. a 1,200lb total is still my goal.

What’s your current squat max? For your third attempt I’d go for a small PR. Nothing huge, you’ll have a long day still ahead of you. 2nd attempt should be right around your current PR, IMO

Bench and dead plans look good.

Burpee Box Jumps
100 Burpees for time
Burpee for 200m
Burpee pull ups
Burpee broad jumps for distance
Burpee tuck jumps
Burpee ring muscle ups (only two lol)

Some things I’ve read from Tate that Louie told him for meets was for the opener go with something you can triple easy, second attempt go for a 5-10lb PR, and third attempt go balls to the wall…just something to keep in mind for when you’re killin it at the meet greggerz! :smiley:

Seriously though… good stuff… obviously listen to what the powerlifters reccommend. But something along the lines of your rough 3rm… rough 1rm (higher or lower depending on how you feel) and then significant PR depending on how the second goes… that’s what common sense would say! AUTOREGULATE! lol

Deadlift PR dance. I haven’t hit a 1rm pr in forever and after reps i just want to die!

I’m legitimately surprised a spotter of that size was willing to spot you. Did he ask you for lifting/eating tips after? He should’ve.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with taking some time off pulls before a meet. They’re pretty stressful on your body. It’s not going to break your meet prep if you do or don’t do them though. Since it’s your first meet, I’d open with your 5-rep max on everything. On the second, I’d go for a 5 lb PR. You’re going to this meet to break your own personal records; you’re not competing against anyone. You have no reason to pick your attempts conservatively in order to win the meet. If you miss it on the 2nd because you went full retard on a technical issue, you’ll be able to repeat the attempt on the 3rd. That’s not possible when you choose to go for PR’s on your third attempt. Besides that, you’re paying money to compete. I see no reason to even show up if you’re not trying to break your own records.

SPF judges pretty leniently as well so as long as you don’t do something absolutely stupid technically you should pass all your lifts. Your form is fine and even exceeds their standards. Maybe Cody/VikingsAD28 can chime in. He just had his first meet.

Ok so todays workout (if you can even call it that) was dookie. Feeling run down and kinda beat up. Everything is sore right now. I need a few days off.

Got in there and rode the bike to loosen up my legs. Hit some stretches and goblet squats then got to work… but I just was not feeling it. A few sets of 135, a few sets of 225 but just couldnt get loose.

531 squats
300 x 5 (felt heavy)
340 x 3 (still felt heavy)
380 x 1 (you guessed it… HEAVY)

I just called it a day after that My right knee is hurting again, everything was tight and hurting and my motivation really took a turn to negative town after that squatting. Just ate so much food. 7oz of Italian sliced salami, 2 chicken/spinache/fetta cheese sausages, 1 “Super Shake” with lots of goodies in it and I’m eyeballing a couple of cold ones in the fridge.

Gotta pack tonight and then we’re out the door tomorrow morning at 6. not gonna think about a gym for 3 days, get some sun, tube, wake board, cliff jump, bbq, watch the UFC fights, drink some burrrrs and all kinds of other debauchery. As Bart Scott said… “Cant Wait!”

Some say open with a triple, I opened with 95% of my squat max, and a little over 90% of my pull, worked out fine for me.
