BMI

I used to think BMI is worthless, but I think Whetu is on to something here. Someone should come something that uses both BMI and bf%. Any ideas?

Quite a few reseachers dont like BMI either, but they prefer waist to hip ratio.

A combination of the two is good, as they are both easily measured.

BF% in terms of research is a pain in the neck to do (especially on a large number of people like BMI is best used on)

Jeff…like I said above…

Use your body fat percentage to get LBM. Put LBM into to a BMI calculator. The result could be called your LBMI. You could use that to track personal progress or compare to other individuals. What we don’t have though is some generalized scale to make the number meanful. Plus there’s the previously mentioned problem of wiggly bodyfat numbers.

I saw a doctor on TV one day trying to explain how someone with obviously low bf% could have a high BMI (i.e. T-Men and Vixens) He said that even though they have a low % of visible body fat, they have lots of fat internally packed around their organs, so the reading is still accurate.

Personally, I thought he was packed full of something else.
