Some huge dude and some tiny wanna be powerlifter chick tied up the squat racks. This was a rare sitch. So, I killed some time with power cleans. Probably not a bad warm-up. Went straight into squats at 225#. Didn’t go heavy but probably a smart workout following a heavy meet.

I guess I say wanna be because I think she is really an actual figure/physique competitor. Why I called her a wanna be is she was wearing a 10mm lever belt and I think chucks. It’s all well and good, but her lifting techniques didn’t fit either bodybuilding or competitive lifter.
Which as a fan of both sports and consequently the one short a place to squat left me annoyed…

111 hang snatch really surprised me. Getting the bar off the ground seems to be biggest hurdle in the movement. Hang variations allowed less slack in the pull and were efficient.
Last bench press set was hard. Hoping it was from the vertical press as 285 x 10 was manageable. 275 x 8 was tough.
Thanks!! I was glad to make my 3 snatches. The 4th @120 came from nowhere. I didn’t even want to try it but I am always pushing the kids to take an attempt for more.
I think q total at masters 105 is like 189… but for the finals I’d have to make 290. I already have a hotel room booked for Columbus. If I can make some competitive lifts, I will try and hit all 3 and qualify for the 4th via the masters Sinclair - open q total not likely for a 37yr old next year.
A local to qualify and 3 low grade national events will be a tough year.
What does your competition schedule look like for next year?

More traditional weightlifter workout than I have been doing. My hamstrings are woke up pretty good with not a lot of time to recover from Monday’s squats.
Two makes of 115/250 in a row is a surprise. I was really doubting my second attempt.
Had a good day lifting while traveling. Bar was moving well. Snatch doubles up to 111 (have not doubled in some time). A decent 115 pushed me to 120. Close miss behind on the first, solid lift on the second.
Cleans went up with similar ease.
140…145…150
Jerks from rack up to 161 all made easily but the racks were pretty noisy so I called it a day.

Lifts are going really well. Last 3 of 4 attempts at 120 have stuck… felt very confident today every weight attempted. Twice this week totaled over 265.
3 things are different in my training:
Switched to pandora instead of iPad playlist
Grown a beard (hunting season)
Focused less on lifts, and more on strength

Probably not obvious to look at but today’s workout was pretty much all to get to the lunches and front squats. Need to get to these numbers for 10s on FS, but it takes so long to get loose/warm - so I might as well do it with the lifts. Should have some good soreness in quads and glutes tomorrow.
A guy at the gym wanted to do a dress up & lift off. I tooted Sunday off, and Monday 10/30 I went in for a treadmill & sauna “pre-covery” (deload).
I lifetime PR’d my deadlift at 227k/500#. I have trained deadlift zero. I assumed in the past that clean and jerking would help. It does not help nearly as much as squatting …
IMO.
After deadlift recovery, I was glad to be able to snatch arguably well. At least I thought so until I watched recap. Lifts felt efficient and total was good, but catches were high. Misses were had deeper in the whole. I attribute this to tightness/muscle fatigue (vs cardiovascular fatigue). All and all, not upset.
