Bleeding Shins Solved

I took some of my dads nerdy ass tube socks and cut the ends off of them. My shins used to bleed a lot, But the skin has toughened up and just rarely breaks… but I kinda like it when it does. I do admit, the socks score some serious looks from other people in the gym.

Proper form is very important to me. I don’t want to be one of those guys I observe so often who lift primarily with their lower back. Though use of your lower back is unavoidable, in my way of thinking, the lift has to come primarily from the quads.

The pad has made little difference in how I lift, though I will take your observation into consideration in the future.

Thanks for replying, a few things. The deadlift is an exercise for the lower back. This doesn’t mean your whole goal is just to feel it in the lower back, but that is the agonist in the exercise.

The quads are actually not super involved unless you are doing some weird form, I was assuming you were doing a conventional deadlift. Significantly more important then the quads would be the erectors, glutes, and hamstrings. Make sure you aren’t bending the knees too much when you pull, no more than 45 degrees for most people.

Finally if I am thinking about this correctly you are taking the squat pad and just putting it on the bar, in the middle of the bar, and then deadlifting like that? If you are doing that as you get heavy you will actually have more friction because the bar will rub more against your shins at the bottom and also the pad will rub up against your thighs at the top. I don’t know how much you are lifting, my guess is if it less than 400 lbs you probably won’t notice that stuff but if it is much more than that you will.

Ever heard of sweatpants? They even help keep your lower body warm between sets for better performance.

All you need is a pair of long Hanes socks that come up to right below your knee.

its just a few scrapes and a little blood. i dont see the big deal

Simple, sweatpants over soccer socks. Instead of folding down the tops of the socks, you pull them over the knee. Looks real goofy if you take the sweatpants off, goofy like being on the run from the set of “Marie Antoinette”, but it works.
