Blacks & Sweet Pototoes

Okay…

You’re a “Bruce Lee-Wannabee…”

Your question was exactly…I mean EXACTLY like me asking:

“I heard that Asians eat a LOT of rice …is this why they are so good at martial arts?”

Mufasa

Being poor and wanting more.

That is the formula.

Not any kind of potatoe or hot sauce ever made instilled the desire to drive a man to be better or stronger or faster than the next guy.

When you come from a place where everyone you know has nothing and also happens to be black like you it tends to be a great motivation to advance your self any way you can.

My GF is half Chinese, so does that mean that she’s only half gifted at martial arts? Or that only half of her body is gifted (though I must say that her whole body looks pretty gifted to me :).

Then again, she’s also half Indian, which is where karate comes from, so maybe she’s entirely gifted. Any ideas?

Cheers

I don’t know a DAMN thing about Ringette…is it organized for boys too? (I’m sure they probably play it…)

What attracts a young woman to Ringette as opposed to Hockey? (Somehow that’s probably going to come out as a dumb question too!)Mufasa[/quote]

Dude, I honestly thought that ringette was “deader than hockey in Texas” until you brought up that web site. I can’t imagine too many guys wanting to play it over hockey… or women for that matter.

Cheers

It means she’s half good at martial arts and half good at outsourcing.

Im not sure if it was already stated, - in the (not exact) words of Chris Rock one reason african americans dominate many sports is because not so long ago during the times of slavery their white masters tried to breed bigger stronger slaves that could work harder, longer.

Damn I’m half-chinese too… No wonder I kept doing 180 jump sidekicks when they were asking for 360s…

Or maybe if I had just doubled my intake of rice… Everything would’ve been cool. Christ… What is this crap?

This was the stupidest post ever, posted by a troll.

Everybody got it, yet BostonBarrister is so bent on proving PC is out of hand that he had to defend a correlation between sweet potatoes and black athletes.

OK, I asked some people today what foods are blacks known to eat. I asked 5 of my white buddies & 5 of my black buddies. All the black friends said sweet pototoes! Three of my white friends said sweet pototoes!

OK! I’ve yet to read anything regarding DHEA on this thread! I guess no one knows shit about it. It’s been around ya know! I don’t believe by just eating sweet pototoes your gonna turn into a superstud, but it does help! There’s other major factors involved of course!

DHEA taken by pill or by eating sweet pototoes does help one stay lean, build muscle & slow the aging process. So…

i know this is off topic, but honestly, who gives a fuck aobut the original topic right?

anyways, yes, selective breading was rampant during slavery. you always wanted to strongest, leanest, most enduring slave. it made financial sense.

there are other factors and variabilities as well

why are kenyans, ethopians such good runners? well by biology teacher explained to me a very popular theory that is widely accepted in the science community

long ago when most of africa was still in tribes, the size of the tribe depended on the size of the herd they claimed, thus with a larger herd, they could sustain more people, and in doing so have a more powerful tribe.

well in order to gain power for themselves and take away from neighboring tribes, you tried to find ways to steal their herd.

only problem is these heards were miles away (20-30 miles etc…) so they took the best runners they had, what very little of them, and sent them on these long brutal runs to go and shepard the herd in the middle of the night. Only those with a natural ability for long distance were able to complete the task.

their rewards? houses, food, and of course, many wives… thus the genetics of a great runner was spread based on the greatness of his accomplishments

anyways i thought that was pretty intresting

Bruceleewannabee,

Yes, I speak for everybody in that we have heard of DHEA.

We have also heard that George Bush (41) lost the election to Bill Clinton.

Now that we have all been caught up on the year 1992,we can rejoin the new millennium, already in progress.

Sorry, I’m just having some fun with you, but I’m sure if you search the archives you can find plenty of info regarding DHEA.

Mufasa, glad I could boggle your mind with a little known Canadian sport. There happened to be a news story on it on one of the local channels last week, so it inspired me to include it.

“Ringette is a Canadian game introduced in 1963 in North Bay, Ontario. Developed originally for girls, ringette is a fast-paced team sport played on ice in which players use a straight, tapered stick to pass, carry, and shoot a 6” rubber ring with the object being to score goals."

“Although many comparisons have been made to the sport of hockey, ringette differs largely in that the hitting, clutching, grabbing, and obstruction and interference that routinely occurs in hockey is prohibited in ringette, resulting in a fast-skating, highly-skilled passing game.”

mayonaise… I wonder if that’s what made us all such bad dancers?

Wannabe:
You are quite goofy. As I am sure you know this already, let me educate you in something you may not already know:

Sweet Potatoes do not contain DHEA. You are thinking of Yams.

Sweet potatoes, which originated in the tropics of Peru and Equador, are roots from the species Ipomoea batatas and belong to the Morning Glory family (Convolvulaceae). True yams, which originated in Africa, are from the Dioscorea genus (Dioscoreaceae family). What are referred to as “yams” in the United States are actually sweet potatoes with a relatively moist texture and orange flesh. It is generally thought that the yam is a more moist sweet potato though varieties vary in degrees of moistness. Although the terms “sweet potatoes” and “yams” are generally used interchangeably, the United States Department of Agriculture requires that they be labeled as “sweet potatoes.” The Yellow Jersey is a dry type of sweet potato whereas the Centennial, Jewel and others are more moist types of sweet potatoes. The latter are what we refer to as “yams.” The “Jersey” type, one of the two types of sweet potatoes produced for food in the United States, has a dry flesh, remains dry and firm when cooked and is less sweet than the moist-fleshed variety. Today the word “yam” is used as a trademark among produce wholesalers and retailers to identify orange types or Louisiana sweet potatoes — soft, moist and sweet when cooked with a deep orange or copper color skin. The canned and frozen yams found in food stores are also sweet potatoes. The flesh turns soft, moist and sweet during cooking.

Now if you want to know about Yams… the birth-control pill is derived from true yams. Manufacturers take diosgenin from the Wild Mexican Yam to make progesterone. From that they create a substance called progestins, the basis of birth control pills. Dioscorea is a natural precursor of DHEA, known for helping to normalize hormone production in women over age 30. As we age, our bodies produce less DHEA. Loss of DHEA levels in the body results in a loss of energy and reduced immune system function. Wild Mexican Yam extract (containing “active” Wild Mexican Yam from Dioscorea) is also an important ingredient in a natural progesterone cream used to treat menopausal and PMS symptoms in women.

Xen, you’re a trademark now?

Hold on now guys, I think he may be on to something…

I am half black, 6’ 5" and I used to play up to 14 hours of basketball a day. BUT I never got “good”. I could hold my own in a game of 3-on-3 (meaning, my team almost always won,no matter who was on it) but I was never college ball good. Now it all makes sense! I don’t eat sweet potato! In fact, I’ve never even tried it. Damn, to think I could be playing in the NCAA if only I had eaten my sweet potato…

I remeber when i was in eighth grade and i was a really good basketball player i used to eat fried chicken from popeye’s quite often. I believe that season i led the team in rebounding and scoring. Now because of this thread I realize that my performance was not due to the hours a spent shooting hoops or the camps that i went to improve my game. It was the chicken. LOVE THAT CHICKEN FORM POPEYE’S!

No, man - I think it’s because whitey has one less muscle in their hammies. And i think blacks have an extra rib, or something, too.

this is amazing.

I’ve been eating applesauce and clam chowder(not mixed, of course)every day since this thread began and now I’m pretty sure I can fly.As soon as the P.C.P. kicks in I’m going for a test flight off of the water tower. >;)
