statistically black people are also worse swimmers than europeans or european-americans. why could that be? its not because more white people have access to pools because none of the white i know have ever had a pool and all know how to swim.yet none of the black i know possess this ability. i think the reason really is just as simple as genetics and traits can be passed down, it doesnt entitle you to be the best at something but it definately gives you an advantage. wow@ a scientific article w/ references stating a very similar thing to what i said getting overlooked cause everyone would rather talk about that one time they saw a black person swimming. i never said black people were inable to swim, i said that from my observations it seems that european-americans have a much easier time picking up the ability than black people. when black people start dominating swimming sports in the olympics and white people start dominating sprinting you guys can call me retarded. until then im just going to call the rest of you naive and childish.
@the Croation stuff for one i think anytime youre between 6’5 and 7+ ft youll be having a much easier time in a sport where height is quite significant.
without even looking at their statistics im sure that if you put the top 5 players you listed and put them against the top 5 black players they would be significantly dwarfed.
although what can i really say when team USA keeps getting their asses handed to them.
once again i dont think your genetics neseciraly make your race the only race that can do something neither do i think that the best person at whatever sport is going to be of a paticular race, anything is possible. i do feel that just like anything else genetics play a huge role in your potential and natural abilities.
I remember reading once that all but one man to go sub 10 seconds for 100m has been of West African descent and has come from a former British colony. The one exception to this was an aboriginal from Australia (also a former British colony).

I did hear some theory about how slave traders would “breed” slaves to get the strongest possible slaves. It’s entirely possible that I was listening to Chris Rock though.
Like all things, there is some sort of combination of genetics, culture, environment and other factors that contribute to this.
It’s not deniable that the short sprints are currently dominated by “blacks”. I put that in quotations because obviously “black” refers to a huge variety of racial/genetic lines. It is interesting though because if you want to be more accurate, the sprints are currently being dominated by the Caribbean countries. A simple glance at the latest NCAA track championships shows an overwhelming amount of runners in the final heat that are not just “black” but more specifically of Caribbean descent, either their background or direct transfers for college.
That tells me that there is something more than simple genetics. Right now, American “blacks” can’t hold a candle to Caribbean “blacks” in terms of relative performance in the 100m dash and population.
Likewise there are a lot of white girls who play tennis around the world but you can’t help but notice that a ton of the top players in the world have a last name that ends in “ova.”
Are people of Dominican descent genetically blessed with the ability to throw or hit a curveball?
Culture? Genetics? Both?
There was actually an extremely interesting article in the NY Times about this. It went into the neuroscience behind how sport “talent” is develop in terms of the chemical processes that take place in the brain as an athlete becomes extremely good at a sport.
I think it is a situation where there are a lot of factors at play and I don’t think that you can make a statement as simple as “black people run faster.” There are a whole lot of Kenyans running out there with no chance at winning any distance short of a mile.
One fairly amusing side note. I was actually engaged in a conversation with somebody who said, in full seriousness, that the reason black people jump higher is that they have another calf muscle. Not bigger calf muscles. Not a higher percentage of FT fibers. Not a higher insertion point. An actual additional muscle that “white” people don’t have. So apparently there is a gastroc, a soleus and negrocep? This person had no answer for what happened with people who are mixed. Do they get it on one leg and not the other? Unfortunately, all of my questions could not be answered. The sad thing is, she was a college graduate. The education in our country is awesome!
