Again, you don’t know that he was hunting. You have no idea why he did what he did.
Doesn’t matter what color Zimmerman is. He’s made a determination in his mind about Martin’s “suspicious” actions based solely on the boy’s skin color.
If Martin were a white kid with the same hoodie and hands in pockets walking slowly in the rain, I highly doubt Zimmerman would have made an issue of it.
On the other hand, Zimmerman’s character is so extremely called into question, I wonder if he’d FIND ANY reason to be a hero at an innocent teen’s expense.
So, what happens now?

A good chance…not much.
Except maybe the kids funeral.

Hopefully an arrest is made.
Hopefully.

Man, as a dad with a teen son myself, this is an extremely heartbreaking thing to consider right now.

Ok so Dr Matt you don’t believe he was being racist, most people do however (not saying you’re wrong) and if he goes to jail, where most I bet will believe he is a racist, he is going to get one hell of a butt raping.[/quote]
For being a racist?? Yeah because thats is the worst you can be in prison.

Not racist at all.

Proof?
Just about every post in this thread has had a racial twinge…it was assumed by all that the shooter was white…when it turns out he was not it’s “IT DOES NOT MATTER WHITE VIGALANTE JUSTICE IS EVERYWHERE”
Shit.
I grew up in a a poor mexian/hmong/black neighborhood in Fresno CA. The Bulldog gang (google them) controlled everything. I was beat up weekly for being white (before people jump in they yelled “fucking white boy/whitie ect.” while doing it.
So it’s not always the MAN doing the fucking people up in this country.
The only thing that irritates me in this discussion is the fact that it has gone beyond the incident to say that racism is ONLY A WHITE PROBLEM. It is most certainly not.

I only met one black racist in my life, it was wildly entertaining,
I am open to the idea that I might have found it much less entertaining if he had held any kind of power over me.

Anytime there are people who are different there is going to be tension…it’s just life.
And since there are more white people than any other in America, there are going to be more white racists by sheer volume.
But if I walk into a bar in a predominantly black neighborhood in Fresno, I am going to catch just as much shit as a black man walking into a predominantly white country club. That’s just reality.
And believe me how I grew up makes me much more sensitive to how folks act around people of other races. I’ve seen that shit up close and personal.

Sorry but I don’t know CA. But that is not always the case. Not all majority White places will have issues with me and not all majority black places will have issues with you. And I have been many places in this country. Its not all as black and white as it sounds.
Still neither thing has anything to do with that kid.
I have not read the last few pages and this may no longer be relevant but I once did research in a small town and I had the cops called on me every time I was in town, even after eating at the town’s Christmas pig pickin’. The cops got out of their car only when I did.
I was not shot AND I even bought Skittles at the one store there. No ice tea, though. Rather I got a Dr. Pepper.

You saved yourself a lot of pain by not reading the last couple of pages.

Correct! Not relevant to the kid…but absolutely relevant to the attitude of the posters on this thread.

The whole zim tape:
Now more information is coming out it is becoming a little bit clearer what happened. One thing I noticed is when the 911 operator asked Zimmerman if he was following Martin and Zimmerman answered yes, all the operator said is “you don’t need to do that”. That does not sound like an implicit command not to follow Martin. So the stand your ground law that the police released a copy of to the press probably does apply to protect Zimmerman.
The other thing I noticed is from what Zimmerman said it sounds like he was apprehensive of Martin. He said Martin was clutching at his waistband of his pants. Now we only have Zimmerman’s word for it, whatever that is worth. However the self defense laws do have to take into account what Zimmerman said his perceived level of threat was at that time.
That tape does make it a little clearer why there has been no charges so far. What I would like to find out next is how Zimmerman says the fight started and how it progressed.

Outside of there being other confirmed crimes in that same area, on that same night, and it seems probable that Trayvon was responsible, I will never be convinced that Zimmerman was justified in his actions. If this is the way the law works then it is grossly inadequate as I could simply spot any black person and arrive at some level of perceived threat. I could then pursue that person as an aggressor, and when he decided to then defend himself from the crazy fuck following him and starts to beat my ass, I am justified in shooting him. Bullshit.
I do not see how two people can claim self defense.
