Black Snake Moan Review

Solid movie. Some parts slowed down the pace but were needed for character development and some people will be irked, not completely turned off, by that. The performances were great all around especially by Sam Jackson and Christina Ricci. I haven’t read the script so I don’t know how close the dialogue was but what was spoken on screen was pretty damn impressive. I can;t comprehend how someone could write what was said. Some improve had to be in there but I’m not 100% certain.

It was shot beautifully. Too bad the projectionist at the theater didn’t know how to focus the dame projector!

Ricci was sexy as all hell. A tad skinny but she needed to be for the part. The dance scene towards the end she looked ridiculous. There was a bunch of nudity on her part. “They” looked great and are “holding up” well as she’s getting older.

There were some funny parts and Sam’s delivery of some of his lines added to the humor. He really did a good job here.

It’s a complete character development movie. Meaning, it’s all about how characters change over time. Really no suspense/action/etc. whatsoever. Just straight up character driven.

If you have doubts about it see it as a matin?e or rent it when it comes out. Just make sure you see it.

Interesting… that’s the first positive review I’ve read on this film.
I was planning on seeing it one way or another (Sam is always cool; Christina is always hot).
Thanks for the alternate viewpoint.

Thanks, PGA!

So far its gotten GREAT critical reviews. A “character driven” movie is VERY hard to pull off in our day of “Video Game Numbed/ADD” movie goers.

Clint Eastwood was talking about this very fact when discussing “Million Dollar Baby” and said that you damn well better have a good script then actors who can pull it off.

(In the reviews, Ricci DID look hot, in that “naughty/skanky” kind of way!)

I plan to see it!

Thanks!

I have to recuse for obvious reasons…

I thought this movie looked stupid. Now you have me interested. Did you see Snakes On A Plane? After I saw Jackson did that movie, I lost a lot of respect for him. I cannot really bad mouth it because I did not see it, but it looked like the dumbest movie ever. Just the concept of snakes on a plane for a whole movie bothers me.

If you lost respect for him after Snakes on a Plane then you missed the whole point of that movie. It was supposed to be a bad movie.

Not only that, but for a man who consistently pulls in large audiences and has even been in Stars Wars movies, even if Snakes on a Plane did truly suck ass in all respects, you are one fickle son of a bitch to judge an actor’s entire career or talent on it.

I guess I did miss the point. Why would someone make a bad movie intentionally?

Don’t assume I judged his whole career or talent off of one movie. I just said after that my respect level dropped for him. I guess I don’t understand why great actors like him would waste time with a movie like Snakes On A Plane. I still like him in just about every other movie he has been in.

I think Star Wars is lame, even though millions love it and it rakes in a lot of cash, so that doesn’t really mean anything to me.

I think the Star Wars “prequels” are lame. Either way, he did several interviews explaining that it was a bad movie that was made intentionally. the whole goal was to get people riled up like many were in the movie theater (if you didn’t see it in a movie theater, you probably missed that reaction), making jokes and reacting to snakes for no damn reason. It wasn’t meant to be taken seriously.
