I attended my first BB’ing show this past Saturday up in DC…the YORTON cup finals…it was insane! I was there supporting a friend and fellow trainer, Victor Oliver from the gym. It was his first pro show, and he placed 5th…
They even had to make a middleweight class for the mens pros, because there was so much competition!!..people from all over the world too! Jamaica, Ireland, Scotland, etc…
The females were up first, and as soon as they came out I could feel my heart just a thumpin!! The intensity and dedication it takes to get up on stage is so inspiring!! I’m so inspired, in fact, I want to give it a go next year! I would regret it if I didn’t at least try…and who knows!! How does, Betty Pro Bodybuilder, sound?
Here’s a little bit of the end where the top three were doing there posedown…
And here’s a little eye candy for the fellas! Overall winner, Dianne Brown doing her thang!
And this is Victor(in the middle!!) And the reason I would want to do this next year, is because I want HIM to train me…we are military and are supposed to be moving spring of 2011…
Anyway, thanks for letting me share! And much respect goes out to all of you…keep lifting!
The Yorton Cup is a big deal, so you usually see some great caliber physiques up there. Cool that it inspired you. I actually just went to the WNBF Worlds the same evening, and a few of my training partners who are going to compete for the first time next Spring were all fired up after seeing the conditioning, and essentially ‘sizing up’ what they need to bring to the table. Looking forward to your prep thread next year!

eeek! Im already nervous…I wrote to my friend, trainer, bb’er guy(Victor) to ask if he thought a year was even enough time…
I’m already in a dieting down phase as it is, so I figure WHY NOT?! I think I would like to compete in the heavyweight class though…is that 165 and above? Im near 185 right now and 26% BF…yikes! I started the year off at 230!
Trying to make it to another show this Saturday up in Baltimore…Im kicking myself for not hanging out longer this last show to see what the Amateur women look like. And talk about an expensive spectator sport…$50 for a ticket, sheesh!!
Thanks for your support Stu!
That’s really cool, props for wanting to commit to a show eventually. Especially since I’m sure you have a busy schedule.
If you’re on Facebook I’ll hook you up with my sorority sister. PM me.
My schedule never prohibits gym time!!
Its the first thing I do after getting the kiddos off to school…sometimes I even go in BEFORE anyone is even awake in the house…and lately I’ve been going in on Friday evenings as well, so I can get schoolwork done thats due on the weekend.
Thanks Lindsay, I sent you a PM…
OP
Is the MD in your name stand for the degree?

Give it a go. You will learn a lot about bodybuilding and even more about yourself. I did a few shows as a teenager and it was in the top five hardest things I’ve ever done (1st show that is).
Also, don’t even think about weight class right now. It doesn’t matter.
Thanks again!
J- no, the ‘MD,’ stands for Maryland! lol
Rugger- I really DO want to give it a shot…the problem I’m running into is not really knowing where to start! Victor(trainer, bb’er guy), is such a busy person, that I’m afraid I would get second class guidance, if that makes sense…all I need from him is a plan mapped out, and I can train on my own…because I wouldn’t be paying him hundreds of dollars/month I fear that I also would be getting half the info I would need…may not actually be true, but its just a hunch…
And I worry about the cost it takes towards the end to have a posing coach, the suit, the choreographer, agghhhh!
Maybe I jumped the gun on this crazy idea?
But for now, I will remained focused on getting stronger, and eating more!
You would be surprised at how much information you can get on your own. I had people whining that I needed a coach when I did my prep, but there was just so much information online, so many other people’s contest preps, other competitors who are willing to answer questions,… If you’re willing to do the leg work and intelligently try to put together a plan, it’s really not so difficult.

intelligently try
haha…
Maybe I need more time in learning what works for ME?
Stu- how much experience did you have with bodybuilding/training before you decided to compete? I have zero…I get the gist of it, but really, not enough to know what I should be doing…
I know I need to work on eating more to grow, but how much?
I know I need to lift heavy and hard to stimulate muscle growth and all that, but what is right for ME?
I spent about two years trying other peoples plans(OPP, LOL!) and eating styles, which is why it took so long to get this weight off! I didn’t stick to just ONE THING and spent too much time second guessing…
I don’t want to do that anymore.
Btw Stu, I dug up your contest prep thread and it’s HUGE!!

[That’s what She Said -lol]
Well, I figured when I started the thread that I’d write about all my concerns, possible choices at certain points, and the rationale behind each decision, whether it turned out to be correct or incorrect. Luckily I was pretty much on the money with most of my prep, and plan on using it for a template when I compete again this coming Spring. Yes, there will be changes, but as long as you learn from you mistakes, I don’;t really consider them mistakes. You just have to research as much as you can, make an educated decision, and if it doesn’t turn out the way you want it to, try to understand why.
