I’m glad you started a log again. Over three years ago, yours was the first that I started following and pushed me towards powerlifting. Sadly, I can’t sport those kick ass shorts though.

Regarding straps, I’d always turned my nose up at them as not being hard core enough. Then I started doing heavy rows. I figure I’d rather row heavy and build my back than worry about not using straps. I’ve become a big fan of heavy DB rows. I also like them for snatch grip deads when I can’t hook grip any more.

I can’t wait to see how you do.

Bear brought something up in Bre’s log about body image and size issues and although I ranted in there a little too, I wanted to address it here, in my log rather than totally hijacking others.

I spent the better part of my time in HS/college counting calories, starving myself then dealing with the guilt after a binge, and doing cardio until I was going to pass out to get “the perfect body”. I had horrible eating habits and the disordered eating not only affected my health and well-being, but relationships with others around me. I was around 110lbs and my size 2s and 4s were hanging off of me. And I still hated how I looked.

It took me years to learn to accept my body. And even to this day there are dozens of things that I want to change, and I will over time, but I’m damn proud of where I’m at right now. My body isn’t perfect, but if my animal print booty shorts are more comfortable squat in than sweats I’m going to wear them and be proud. You don’t like my legs? Not my problem. Don’t look. I’m stronger than you anyway…

I fell in love with the weight room when I was a chubby unathletic kid in middle school. We did a unit on fitness and the PE teacher showed us the weight room and explained what all of those machines were for. It took me years to get enough confidence to step foot into a gym and even longer to figure out how to do it right. I was ashamed of my body, unsure of what to do and how to do it once I got in there, and afraid that the guys would laugh at me or look at me funny because I obviously didn’t belong. Today I’m still not the best or the strongest or the leanest. But I belong. And I’m proud of what my body can do.

And here are the numbers (and then some) that Bear was talking about posting.

I’m sorry to say that the last two sets with 90 on OHP were not super strict. None of that half-squat push press business, but I used a little leg drive to get the bar off my chest. Ah well. Thats a PR, regardless.

Bear- I have no idea how our shoulder measurements are so close. I have broad shoulders but that’s still insane to me…You almost caught me with calves.
