An aspect i find interesting that nobody is mentioning is that a lot of the RAW federations test for illegal drugs. That means that you have to be relatively clean for awhile which I am sure will also serve to change the environment of the sport.

And this is a big reason why most of the big lifters lift elsewhere. Powerlifting is too intimately tied to steroids to ever be separated completely.

I doubt gear it’s the only reason that powerlifting is not in the olympics (although I’m sure that is part of the reason)…
it might (I speculate) have something to do with all the drug usage that surrounds the sport…the olympics already has a strength sport (weightlifting)…and IOC ($$$) politics…
ulimately, I don’t give a shit about the olympics anyways. So the fact that powerlifting is not included in all the IOC reindeer games doesn’t bother me a bit…[/quote]
Powerlifting is not going to be an olympic sport. Hell, olympic weightlifting is one of the most unpopular sports in the Olympics as it is. The IOC is a business, they want TV rateing and 300lbs powerlifters with shaved heads, sniffin’ amonia, etc. isn’t going to get them. You know what got the highest rateings? Beach vollyball. Hot hunnies in bikini’s…nuff said. So gear or no gear, I don’t think it will make any differance to the IOC.
I powerlift because I love the sport. Nothing is better than the feeling I get with every new PR. Thats what its all about.

Then at the end of the day, one of the main reasons that powerlifting would have a difficult time making it into the lympics would be due to the stringent drug testing.

the olympics suck shit stained dirty ass hairs and are boring as hell…so fucking what if powerlifting isn’t ever included…

I realy don’t see how powerlifting’s known drug use would be what’s holding them back from making it an olympic event.
There can be drugs in any sport. If powerlifting were to make it to the olympics, that would just mean that only drug-free lifters would compete, and the numbers wouldn’t be as high.
There are plenty of olympic sports that don’t produce at the same level as the pros in the same sport.
I don’t claim to know the reason why it’s not an olympic sport, but I’m just saying that I don’t think one of the reasons is because of the drug usage in the sport.

It’s one of the reasons, but there are many. When sports like baseball are getting cut, a sport like powerlifting with about .000000001% of the fan appeal doesn’t stand a chance in hell of making it. No one will ever be kicking themselves saying, “If only steroids were never linked with powerlifting, we would be in the Olympics.” It’s just not a possibility that powerlifting will make it.
And even then, at least in America, it would suffer from the same problem basketball does - most American lifters would view other competitions as more important than the Olympics.

Have some unresolved issues…

No, it would mean that only the lifters who could pass a drug test would compete. a distinction worth pointing out ![]()

Not drug-free, just lifters that can pass the drug testing in the olympics. Some are drug-free, some aren’t.

Ok, I think it’s time to admit that RickJames is my alter ego. I just forgot this time and posted the same thing under my other screen name.
Although not surprising considering I’ve agreed with everything he’s said (i think) on this thread. and several other gear/drug argument threads.
