Biggest Upset Ever... U.S.A Beats Spain 2-0!!

Oh, I have it figured out now-- Soccer is the one that’s like Baseball, except you roll the big red ball and the other person kicks it and runs around the bases.

Good times… good times.

no, thats rugby

For once, the views here are aligned with the rest of the world. Noone carea about the Confederations Cup, so there is no way this is the biggest shock in sports history. If the US get to the final of the World Cup, maybe it will be in the top 10 shocks.

The US will not do well in the World Cup 2010. Soccer will not catch on in this country, the LA Galaxy figured this out after 250 million dollars spent to bring David Beckham here. Nothing changed. No one cared for longer than a day.

Yeah, that move was fucking stupid.

Beckham is too much of a limey queer to be accepted by American society. And his wife, while hot, comes off as an obnoxiously aloof bitch.

I LOL at the people who actually thought he was the ideal choice for changing soccer in America.

It obviously didn’t work, but he was the best choice for making soccer popular in America.
No way…IF we could’ve gotten…say…Pele to come play for a NASL team back in the 70’s then soccer would be totally popular in the US…

Oh.

Then, which is the one where the 2 chicks with big knockers wrassle around in bikinis in mud or Jell-O???

Because I’m totally into that sport.

I watch football (soccer) on the odd occasion but it all honesty baseball has to rank highest in the most boring sports I have ever had the displeasure of watching! Those guys spend more time chewing tobacco, spitting and scratching their balls than doing anything else.

I saw an ice hockey game in NY last year and it was fucking brilliant esp. the two fights, which I hear they are trying to outlaw. Shame about the intervals disrupting the game but all in all it was great.

Check out our national game ‘Hurling’ for something different! Aussie Rules, Rugby, Ice Hockey, MMA and Gaelic Football are all good to watch! Anything with an element of controlled violence, fast pace, physical toughness etc. gets my vote!

P.S. Do sports attract people on the merits of that sport alone or is just all a function of exposure and advertising? I think American football is not that great but hey’ I don’t follow the game or have never played it so who am I to comment!

This also applies to the comment I made about baseball! I suppose we are all just full of shit’ but isn’t it fun to piss on each others sports (religion, political views, country etc…

Top 5 national team soccer victory of all time.

 1. 1950 World Cup vs. England

 2. 1994 Word Cup vs. Columbia

3/4. 2002 World Cup vs. Portugal and Mexico

 1. Confed Cup vs. Spain

Tim Howard was a wall…If you don’t like soccer, that’s fine…I played football and soccer in High school. Hate away.

But to soccer fans, this was a great, great day for the U.S. The Fucking UNITED STATES.

You haters can at least get behind our country…right?

yeah i mean i am happy our country won. but i do not think soccer will ever be big here. it just pisses me off when people say we create leagues with no other countries and call ourselves world champions. every country has a view of the world with themselves at the center of it. not just the U.S.

America, Fuck Yea! I personally hate watching American soccer. British Premier League ftw!

There’s a great book called Soccer Head that talks about this game. 2 of the US’s best players couldn’t make the trip because they couldn’t get time off from the factory they worked in.

Soccer was THE sport in the USA from Civil War times up until WWI. After WWI all the immigrants decided they didn’t want to be immigrants anymore and banned their kids from speaking their native tongues AND from playing soccer. They made the kids play baseball.

Soccer picked up some momentum when the women’s team won the world cup in 96 and the women were mostly hot, but US Soccer killed any momentum which they continue to do by maintaining th status quo and basically sucking things up. The book, The Girls of Summer has some very interesting stuff about this.

I guess noone ever explained to you that being Hispanic literally means that you ARE someone who SPEAKS Spanish. Therefore, by definition, people from Spain, who are Spanish are also Hispanic and likewise, people from Brazil (to kill a popular myth) who do NOT speak Spanish are NOT hispanic (they speak Portuguese). My ex from Brazil cleared that up for me a long time ago and considered it an insult when people called her Hispanic.

Fuck soccer but anytime USA wins any sport im happy even if it is pussy game soccer
I can see why you would call soccer a pussy game, since they do act hurt like every time someone touches them. That’s more of a way to manipulate the refs, but I’ve never liked it because it shows a lack of honor and integrity and I can’t respect someone who doesn’t have those qualities that much. But with that being said, soccer is not a pussy sport, it can get just as rough as any other sport (at times) and the only pads you have are over your shins. And the amount of running you have to do makes it hard by itself, without adding in any other factors.

To be honest, this is’nt even the biggest upset in football (to give it it’s proper name) let alone sport. Whilst it was a great result for the US, the reality is that they were playing against players who have just finished their domestic seasons and have one eye on their summer holidays.
That may be the REASON they lost, but if I’m not mistaken, I believe they had been unbeaten in international play for years now, literally. So you’re gonna let a team like the U.S. come in and end your streak? I’d be so pissed right now if I were from Spain. We of all people should know that there is no room for excuses. Especially when you have a streak to maintain that most of the world is envious of.

I love soccer. I’ve never had as much fun as chasing a ball around a dusty field in the early morning in Cidade Baixa (Salvador, BA Brasil for you gringos). They take that shit serious as cancer. Good times.

I was actually in Brazil for the last World Cup and it was electric. EVERYTHING stopped when Brazil played a game. When they even came close to making a goal you would have thought World War III started. Anything that gets an entire nation of people to stop whatever it is they’re doing and cluster in front of the TV (with lots of food and cerveja, natch) in rapt fascination is worth paying attention to. I shouted myself hoarse whenever the Americans played and I didn’t even know what I was looking at.
Ya, my ex said that the whole country shuts down, literally, during the World Cup. Like, businesses are closed for a week (or however long it is) and the bosses don’t expect anyone to come to work or anything. Just like, normal life is on pause until it’s over.

Not that I want to argue the point, but I believe football (futbol, the name that is) has been around waaaaaaaaaaay longer than American football, not that I really care which one is “real”.

But soccer has all that stuff, too, even the controlled collisions (to a lesser extent, obviously). There’s an immense amount of strategy, team play, and athleticism. There’s a lot more coordination involved because you are not carrying the ball in your hands, you have to keep it around your feet that don’t have an opposable thumb like your hands do. Also, I’m sure there are plenty of soccer players who are as fast as football players, except they can keep up the speed for 40 minutes, not just 10 seconds at a time…

But if you think it’s popular because it’s easy, perhaps you should try playing with some people who know what they’re doing since “any brokeass” can kick a ball around. Go out and when you get pawned, which you will, at least don’t go back and get all spiteful and continue insulting the sport because you got owned. You don’t have to like it, but the sport deserves respect. At least respect it.

Yeah don’t get me wrong I think it’s a great win and the Spanish will be gutted, I was just putting the win into context. Its not the biggest upset ever.

Good Job U.S. I don’t know how they pulled it off but it was great.

I think that was in 99.

I just hate it how people here are saying, “We find it boring” “we hate it” “we” “we” “we”

Speak for yourselves fuckers! If you say “I” hate it, ok, but we? come on. Just cause You and your cool friends hate it doesn’t mean the rest of the U.S does.

Oh ya, forgot that point. There’s many many people in this country who like soccer. It’s not as unpopular as most here seem to think. Also, if you find it boring, try college soccer. The few D1 games I saw were on smaller fields and were a lot more fast-paced, it may change your mind.

With that being said, as much as I like American football, I do have to say at times it gets boring to me (don’t get me started on baseball, either). Especially towards the end of the game when they’re trying to kill the clock and running every play for like 2 or 3 yards. So much time inbetween plays for most of them to last 5 seconds or so. Yes, a lot is going on during those 5 seconds, but it’s still only that long regardless. With another 30 second wait until the next play. Like I said, I like the game, but there are plenty of times when it gets boring to me, so I prefer watching it with friends and drinks, helps a lot.
