Big Actors Who Can Act

LOL.
Sadly, it seems the era of the “big” guy in hollywood is over. I guess you could debate how many of the big guys from the 80’s and early 90’s were actually considered decent actors.
I agree with Michael Clark Duncan being on the list though. He looks the same to me now as he did many years ago, and I always remember him getting out of the police car in The Green Mile when I think of that movie.
He also seems to be an actor who is big as opposed to a big guy who later tried to get into acting, which there is too much of lately.

Jamie Fox, Will Smith, etc, got big for their roles, in my mind I don’t even consider them. If that were the case we’d be talking about Jackman as Wolverine, and that Lautner kid in New Moon.
Why all the hate on this site for Jackman?

How can you compare him to the Lautner kid? Jackman easily got as big as Smith, or any of the other “regular” actors in this thread… I think bigger, I tried some quick net research, and got 220 pounds for Wolverine, not HUGE, but I bet that’s 60 pounds on the twilight kid.

Is it the Wolverine thing? You all thought that a character who in the comic books was like 5’6" should have been played by a 6’6" tall monster, and he was just disappointing? Or is it just a reaction to all the hype, because he looked so “big” compared normal societal standards that every on this board considers puny?

He’s no Arnold, but out of the pool of actors available, he’s one of the larger ones, and can act.

Can anyone explain the hate to me?
Hate? I don’t hate the guy…but I also don’t like the fact that fucking SUPER HEROES that used to be drawn like NPC super heavy weights are now played by people who make me look like the super hero. Just once I would like to see one of these movies and not feel like I could bench press the whole cast and crew.

Wolverine is FUCKING SWOLE in the comics and nearly every cartoon series. Why is expecting actors to match up on screen now a bad thing?
That’s because everyone in the comics are huge. Even the women. but proportionally speaking they are equal. Likewise, everyone in the movie is relatively proportional. You can’t have one gigantic dude by himself, it wouldn’t make sense.

What? Everyone in the comics ISN’T huge. Lois Lane is NOT huge. Wonder Woman is a freaking Amazon so yes, she is built like a fitness model.

The SUPER HEROES are huge…like they should be.

Therefore, why pick the skinny guy to play Superman when the actor they chose couldn’t act very well in the first place? I mean, it isn’t like we got some award winning performance out of the guy. Hell, most people couldn’t even tell you the man’s real name.

Good casting? Michael Clarke Duncan as King Pin. The man bulked up to a super heavy 320+lbs just to play that role…and he actually carried the weight well.

Why is it so much to ask to ex[ect the actors to actually LOOK more the part?

If Christian Bale can do it, why the hell can’t the rest of these fuckers?

Somehow, the LOOK was so freaking important for movies like 300…but we let Spiderman turn emo?

Fuck it, we should just make a movie league where every SUPER HERO movie shall be played by bodybuilders, powerlifters or anyone above 220lbs

By the way he worded his response (“for” instead of “from”), I’m taking he thought that I thought Rhames’s best performance was in I Now Pronounece You Chuck and Larry, not that the image was from the movie.
Exacta-mundo. (See what I did there?)

Just went over to wikipedia to check out what they have on Duncan… The guy was born in 1957! Jesus! He went up to ~320 at that age! He’s 6’5 too… One gifted fucker, shame he never competed… Wonder what weights he was putting up at his best.

No wonder he’s getting smaller now, though… At 52-53 y.o., I’d take it down a notch, too lol

I had no idea man, I thought he was 35-40 or so… Wow.

What excuse do the other “big” actors have again?

Too bad we don’t see bigger guys in regular (non action-hero /special character) roles more often… You know, a role that in itself does not “require” a big guy or has anything to do with muscle, but is still played by someone who obviously trains (shit, doesn’t need to wear tight tees all the time or anything either)… Just for some diversity and so people get used to the look… Rather than considering it some sort of abomination.

I mean, most of us who don’t compete as IFBB pros do have jobs, families and all that like everybody else… And we don’t exactly train all day, every day, or talk about it all the time or anything… And neither are we super-villains, super-heroes, barbarians, ancient greek champions (to die at the hand of Brad Pitt of all people, wtf), wrestlers or some such…

In some areas you get quite a few positively huge guys walking around and going about their every-day business… I don’t see why that can’t be that way in movies and shows… And why every single time someone larger than average appears in a movie he can’t just play the guy (or gal) next door without the director making some kind of deal out of it rather than just considering him a normal character…

Come on X, there are plenty of medical -themed shows out there for you to appear in. Or you could be “citizen in the background no. 3” in the next season of Dexter, or some sex shop owner in Sex And The City (that still running?)

Ryan Reynolds

Not huge, but definitely shredded and a decent actor. Looked pretty big in Amityville Horror too…

That’s amazing, I forgot how big he was as Kingpin, I always remember him for The Green Mile.

You know who this thread is missing? Tommy “Tiny” Lister aka Deebo. Dude was a wreslter for a while too.

Bill Duke is a pretty big guy and an awesome actor

Fuck off Daniel Craig. The names Connery, Sean Connery.

This guy is the original big man of film.

Someones taken this ‘Professor X’ thing just a little too far me things!!

Tell me, would you use the power of your mind to do this, or would it be a physical thing ?

Since nobody else mentioned it yet (it may be an obscure fact), Mariusz Pudzianowski starred in the Polish remake of Conan the Barbarian.

Your posts as always are pointless.

That’s what gets me. I can go to school for ten years, but if I get cast in a movie, it would only be as “thug 1” or “body guard”. Apparently, the general public just can’t comprehend someone having 20" arms and also being a professional in an unrelated field to bodybuilding or weight lifting.

This is why that “meat head” concept still exists.

Just once, i would like to see someone my size or bigger just play “regular guy who isn’t a criminal, a villain, or going insane”.
