Big Actors Who Can Act

Weird most of the guys named are not more than a few months bigger than the guy everybody is complaining about playing conan. I’d say maybe terry cruz who has done too much comedy but still might come off as bad ass, Clark duncan, Andrew B, and Micheal Jai white(appears smaller with clothes on) as really big guys who can play super hereos hercules like superheroes.

But why even go that route, most of the movies requireing huge guys are for action, do like they did back in the 70’s and 80’s just get bodybuilders. You can’t tell me out of ALL the pro’s not one of them can do some basic acting. This is not a romantic comedy where you have to play the perfect man women want.

I agree. That guys a pretty good actor and big.

Edit: Kevin Durand.

Micheal Jai White is pretty big but he purposely avoids training his traps and his shoulders to a large degree so that he can play smaller parts should the need arise. He is one of those guys who would likely be a hell of a lot bigger if he actually trained like some of us.

I would say guys like Andrew Bryniarski and Terry Crews are a hell of a lot more than just “a few months” bigger than the guy they chose. You don’t look like Terry Crews in a few months and Andrew was bigger than me when he did The Program.

While you may be right that there are no doubt some bodybuilders out there who can act, the 80’s had its fair share of loony crap in movies. There is no way in hell a movie like Cobra would be able to come out today without being labeled as a comedy simply because it was WAY over the top…and Stallone wasn’t even that big back then. He was just way bigger than most of the people watching him.

I think people need to be able to act well today…but we often still come up short BECAUSE OF THE WRITERS AND THE CASTING DIRECTORS. They are the ones who have helped remove any sign of masculinity from male lead roles. I know I mentioned it before, but how the hell did Shia LaBuff get picked to play the lead in Eagle Eye?

That movie might have actually been worth watching with someone like Will Smith…but instead we keep getting told by Hollywood that little guys who look like boys instead of men now have the star power and presence to carry a whole freaking movie as a male lead.

That was a muscle suit he wore in Wolverine.

Interestingly enough, Michael Jai White and Troy Alves grew up together and Michael Jai is the one who got Troy into bodybuilding.

And I have to agree with your statements on Terry Crewes and Any Bryniarski. But then we do have a large number of guys on this board who eat like birds and lift weights like girls and wonder why they don’t grow, so their sense of things is a bit screwed up.

Kevin Levrone is trying to break through, would be awesome if he had some sucess

I was referring to his build in Lost. I think it was 4th season or something. He didn’t have a bodybuilder’s physique but he’s a big dude.

Yeah, but his acting resume is pretty good, and he’s decently built as is. Could definitely use some more size, but I’ve read in interviews where he says that he avoids getting too big in case he needs to be a bit smaller for certain roles. Similiar to the other guys you’ve mentioned that would probably be a helluva lot bigger if the climate for the ideal physique were a bit different than it has become today.

The guy is 6’6" and with some intense preparation could probably get to a very impressive physqiue.

Ashton Kutchner

The entire cast of “Watchmen”

Maybe my punctuation was off because I was saying Terry Crews and Andrew ARE big. The other guys mentioned in this thread like Kevin Derand, Rourke, Matt Damon I do think momoa can approach after 6 months of hard training. Especially if he stays cut which appears even bigger on screen.

Michael Jai white is big, and considering how ripped he is could be huge if needed to be. I think if he gained up to 4% he would be significantly bigger and the average person still wouldn’t notice the fat gain. Although he would need a cast of shorter characters to stand out height wise. For reference I’m just basing it on how he stands out in movies without tight clothes or his shirt off.

I disagree with how good of an actor they need to be nowadays. And how bad the movies were. I can still watch the original conan to this day, it’s entertaining. Not winning any oscars, but can capture some attention. With the right directors and producers I think actors can be even weaker and still result in a good movie. If they can put some of these rappers in half decent movies, they can do it for bodybuilders.

I do agree with the writers and casting directors removing masculinity. I think they are just trying to make movies that appeal to too many different audiences. Not realizing that they are overdoing it and losing their original audience.

Will Smith in Ali. Not overly huge, but I think he can pass.

Gunter was in Beerfest.

Forget Brad Pitt in Troy, here’s Nathan Jones, who played Boagrius. Don’t really know if he’s a good actor, but dude is huge. Think I heard he’s in the Tekken movie too?

Hmm pic didn’t work, one more go:

Arnold… aka; “The Oak”…

Jamie fox was a decent size in Any given Sunday, LL Cool J also.

Personally I think we should be looking at guys that are playing a roll because they’re big, not because they got big for a role.

Jamie Fox, Will Smith, etc, got big for their roles, in my mind I don’t even consider them. If that were the case we’d be talking about Jackman as Wolverine, and that Lautner kid in New Moon.

And that makes me cringe.

Will Smith was holding some decent mass in “I, Robot,” probably 10+ pounds heavier than in “Ali” and leaner. Sadly, that’s about as big as you will ever see any leading man get.
