Actually it takes a minuscule amount of fraud to change an election. I was looking for an article that I thought said Trump needed like 42,000 vote difference to have tied the EC.
But here is the same going against Clinton in 2016. 80,000 out of 137MM votes.
Shocking how everyone in this room has at least a Master’s degree, yet so little intellectual rigor that they can state categorically “There is no, was no, will never be fraud.”
Oh please. I was pigging backing on your own dry joke, to make the obvious joke and you know it. Woulda been a waste to let that low hanging fruit continue hanging haha
First off, I’m glad to be writing on a platform that values the idea of free speech. Thank you for providing that increasingly rare opportunity @Mod_Phoenix and @Chris_Colucci . I’m lifting again now and I’ll need more protein very soon.
For now I’ll give a brief synopsis regarding my thoughts on the 2020 election.
It was clear to me prior to the election that all of the last-minute changes being insisted upon by the Democrats were obviously, blatantly introducing many, many new opportunities for manipulating the system through a variety of means. I wrote about this in the months leading up to it. Geez, who could have guessed that all of these changes will cause problems?
Problems? What problems? The right guy got elected and most major media sources agree with long-time government employees. Cleanest election of all time. Done deal. It is so clean, in fact, that you aren’t allowed to criticize it through any of the most common means of modern communication.
That’s totally not against the First Amendment, I get it. You can still shout whatever you want in that field. As long as you’re wearing a mask and keep 6 feet away from other people. And it isn’t past curfew. And you’d better not be trying to conduct un-approved business in that field.
The problem is the shattered faith in the system. I compare the situation to my experience in business. If I saw the amount of fishy things in my business as I saw in the 2020 election from credible, documented sources, I’d call for an audit. Unfortunately the election system, which is really over 50 separate election systems with many sub-systems underneath it, is impossible to audit in any meaningful way.
Think of a dive bar, which is easy for me to imagine. This bar has no cameras anywhere. There is no point of sale system. They accept credit cards but receive no breakdown of what was purchased and what was charged. Just a receipt with a total and tip bar. Most customers pay in cash. The owner is growing suspicious that there may be some kind of theft or fraudulent activity taking place. He’s at a loss of how this can be proved though. This is because his system is designed to allow fraud to happen and then be impossible to prove. He’s just too dull to realize it while he gets fleeced by every bartender and waitress working there.
I’m suggesting we put some cameras in the bar and install a POS system at minimum. Even if the bartenders and waitresses throw a fit and call it “insulting, intrusive and probably racist”.
The other big problem is a rapid and grotesque erosion of the value and basic notion of free speech in our society. Cancel culture is real. Woka Cola is a real multi-billion dollar American As Apple Pie Company that’s forcing critical race theory down the employee’s throats. The internet tech giants are giants for a reason. YouTube was a beacon of free expression, until it decided not to be. Same with all of the other giants. Approved speech only from here on out. It makes me want to vomit, as does the basic idea that people are too stupid to read whatever is in front of them and make a value judgement on their own. It is insulting and cuts against the basic fabric of our society.
I’m sure most posters here are perfectly capable of the mental gymnastics needed to lay these outcomes at the feet of Donald J. Trump, but Trump isn’t the one who calls for broad ideologically-based censorship, digital book burning, or advancing the idea that children’s cartoons from the 40’s are problematic but teaching kindergarteners about transgenderism is productive and helpful. Trump is not the one who decided to deploy divisions of soldiers into the capitol in response to rioters. Trump is not the one who has rapidly implemented the most far-reaching and draconian restrictions on speech this nation has ever faced. Trump is not the one who ordered police to stand down during the 2020 riots.
Divisions of soldiers to protect me, de-fund the police for thee.
Once the Trump stupor wears off I hope some folks will realize that we’re lining up for another big social and cultural struggle here in the USA. The Republicans have always been on the right side of history in these big moments when the stakes are highest for who we are as Americans. It has never been a flawless institution and it never will be. Similarly, the Democrats have never been a progress-minded institution and I don’t believe they ever will be. Not if you measure progress in human outcomes as opposed to simply getting this policy or that passed. You can make the case for a few policies, a few prominent leaders and a few moments in history where Democrats have contributed, but the rap sheet keeps adding up for failed policies and bad outcomes not just here, but across the world.
Basic measures like actual voter ID (not a utility bill), sensible mail-in absentee procedures that are the exception, not the rule, and software that’s transparent and entirely managed in the USA could go a long way towards restoring confidence in the system. I think a case can even be made for the elimination of software altogether. A secret ballot that’s accessible to every American but still able to be audited in a meaningful way is not something that’s inherently out-of-reach in 2021.
There’s a lot that we should be able to have common ground on, but that will never happen if conservatives can’t even have their say in public.
We discussed this before the election even happened. It was always going to be an unprecedented situation trying to have a national election in the midst of a global pandemic. Short of delaying the election until vaccination was over and cases were going down to almost nil this election never had a chance of feeling typical.
And we also had the same people talking about ahh you can’t trust that type of ballot. You know the one that the President votes by and 33 million Americans did when he won the election. The people who I guess I must have not remember the threads after that win where they called Donald Trump illegitimate because of that number.
This is the start of conspiracy theory land already. You’re already planting the seeds of the fix was in. Pretending that it would be so shocking for the current historically unpopular President to lose an election. A President with consistently low ratings during a pandemic in which his ratings on that particular situation were very low.
You were in the prediction thread. Plenty of people said Biden would win and why. Plenty of people said Trump would win and why. Why is it oh so shocking that one side was right? Why does it have to be the fix was in?
The faith in the system was shattered before the election even happened by one side and one side only. A man who without any evidence of voter fraud insisted it happened in 2016. He only lost the popular vote because of illegals. Something he’s never been able to prove. Republicans are constantly screaming the system is broken when they lose. Ask them to prove it they can’t. But they continue to get their supporters to believe the same tired myths.
Donald Trump told all his supporters if he lost it was due to fraud. Long before the election even happened. And wouldn’t you know it the moment he did the vast majority of those who voted for him like everything else he said magically believed it. Do we need to go to the other thread for the laundry list of things that people said happened that were debunked? The court cases they couldn’t win. The long list of Republicans close to Trump who said he lost? How about some actual evidence like listening to him ask a Republican to find him votes?
I would say the faith in the system for Trump supporters would remain in one scenario and one scenario only. A Trump win. That’s what he wanted his supporters to believe. Because he couldn’t take an L. And by God like everything else they swallowed it up.
Look I can’t sit here and say Democrats didn’t cheat. I can’t say the election wasn’t stolen. I can only say that based on all the evidence, recounts, hearings that’s now what I take away.
What I can tell you with what I feel like 100% certainty is the response by Trump’s base when he lost was going to be the way it is no matter what. That was baked in long ago and the seed set in their minds.
Sure, there’s been a lot of people pissing in the pot over the years. You seem better-informed than most about the inner workings of Trump’s mind and motivations, so I’ll defer to you on that matter. Regarding the election itself, I’m not saying I KNOW the fix was in. I’m saying I’ve seen the same amount of fishy activity that would have me speaking to both my CEO to ask for an audit and then lawyering up just in case.
edit. I’m sorry, I realized how crude that post was compared to your clever innuendo. What I meant to say is that she’s a commanding personality who fits me like a flesh tuxedo and I’d like to sink her with my pink torpedo.
And I will say many people started looking for the fishy stuff the moment he was losing. That’s when it became stop the count. We want to talk about faith in the system? A Republican President telling a state to stop counting votes? Then we got a nonstop barrage of “here’s why it was stolen.”
And I don’t have time to go into the myriad but we started having everything. Did you see what happened with all those votes at once in Michigan? “User error corrected shortly.” Well what about the number of votes in this county being so high? That could have turned Michigan! “Mr the county you’re talking about in Michigan doesn’t exist it’s in Minnesota.” Ugh, well what about Maine’s harbors having ballots from North Korea? “Honestly I can’t prove that didn’t happen.” Fucking knew it! Stolen!
So we did court cases (lost), recounts, (lost), superme court (nah), sue other states (nah), etc. it seems to me that countless avenues for proving that any fishy situation caused Trump to lose were explored. But again I say many people had already convinced themselves of a Trump win. So it HAD to be fishy. Just because none of those changed anything doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. It just means they were that good at fixing it.
When you start with the assumption that something has to be rigged you won’t ever bother looking for anything else. Nothing could have ever been done to keep most of Trump’s supporters from believing the election was stolen. No scenario. Our system worked in only one possible way. A Trump win and none of them would have had a care in the world. A Trump loss? Burn the whole thing down he doesn’t lose.
