Seems a good breakdown on the Tim Walz stolen valor claims: Assessing claims about Tim Walz’s military service (msn.com)
To me, it’s not really about whether or not his service was impressive or exceptional. The question is whether he lied or mislead about his service to make it sound better. His language on the subject has definitely been misleading and sloppy. Probably not something that could be proven as stolen valor in a court of law, but he hasn’t been straightforward.
If anyone is willing lie about about their military service they will lie about anything
The guy talks fast and these were off the cuff remarks. To me, sounds more like he was trying to convey that he knows what weapons of war are, he’s seen them in action, he’s sent them into action, etc. He has a long history of clarifying, in interviews, that he was never in combat, so a onetime flub from 6 years ago isn’t that concerning. If he had made a habit of similar claims, that would be concerning, to me.
One of my pet peeves is people harshly judging politicians for the odd flub during speeches or public appearances. If you do any amount of public speaking/leading you know that flubbing words or thoughts happens, especially if tired, and on a marathon speaking day/week/month/year. And every single flub is captured on camera and dunked on by political rivals. I always thought GW, especially, didn’t get a fair shake in that regard.
It’s too late to hold a vote that is scheduled to take place in the future at the event you mention? Isn’t choosing their nominee for President is the entire purpose of the Democratic National Convention?
Isn’t it odd that a woman who won the fewest votes of any Democrat Party candidate in their last primary is now the nominee?
I suppose they had to react when they suddenly learned that Joe Biden is experiencing cognitive decline during the debate. There’s no way they could have known something was up before then. None of us knew.
I guess it’s just crazy how life works out sometimes. So many historic firsts!
Yeah. Thats bullshit. He wouldn’t need a long history of clarifying if he didn’t repeatedly lie about his service.
Not a one time flub either. Guy seems to really like telling these lies.
What are the other instances of lying about going to war/combat you’ve seen? I’ve just seen the one.
He has dragged out the command sergeant major many, many times.
Thats not a mistake anybody makes any number of times.
… Because he was a Command Sargent Major… Was he not?
You know how a sheißter finds his marks?
He tells a big fucking lie.
Then a bunch of people call bullshit.
The ones left that let it slide are his people.
It was far too late to rehold primaries.
The primaries are where delegates votes are won. Since the delegates can’t vote for their primary’s winner (he dropped out), they are free to give their vote to whomever. Those delegates have come out and defacto voted early for Kamala Harris.
Correct me of I’m wrong, but technically Kamala hasn’t actually won the democratic nomination. That can’t be official until the convention, right?

I judged you wrong all along. I didn’t realize you were calling BS on trump this whole time!

Yes, that’s actually what the convention is for. I guess they just didn’t know that Joe Biden wasn’t all there until the debate and gee, wouldn’t you know, there’s just no time for the Democrat party to see if the primary would play out different than the last one. Sure, Kamala only got two percent of Democrat party members to vote for her last time, but we as a nation shall not be unburdened by what has not been uncounted when thinking about the importance of the passage of time.
I get it. Organizing something like a vote for other candidates at established polling places takes months to achieve. The people have spoken. Kamala/Waitz 2024!
I get it. Organizing something like a vote for other candidates at established polling places takes months to achieve.
Yes, it does actually. Also have to factor in how other potential candidates could fundraise and campaign in just a few weeks (how long do you think it takes a candidate to plan and build a team for a run at POTUS?) compared to kamalas inherited war chest and campaign team.
I guess you’re right. This is just the Democracy Defenders keeping their eyes on the prize.
When you think about the Harris/Walz ticket, which of their policies do you see as particularly good?
Prochoice
Environmental issues are big for me (protection of EPA, green energy, deregulation, forest/wilderness protection, etc)
I’d like to see higher taxes for wealthier folks and larger corporations
Less isolationist w/foreign policy
Likely put 1, maybe 2 folks on SCOTUS
The bipartisan border bil, that nearly passed till Trump leaned on folks so it’d be a campaign issue, would be passed
More money for infrastructure
Continue reforming medical system
Etc.

I like that she’s (somewhat) Black. Same thing I liked about Obama’s policies. I’m anti-racist.
Less isolationist w/foreign policy
Stuff like this is how everyone knows you’re a troll. There has never been a less-isolationist government.
He’s talked about ‘being deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to do base security.’ And then the unit being deployed to Iraq. This is all technically true but seems carefully worded to imply that he was deployed to a war zone when he wasn’t.

If it’s true, I don’t see the problem.
24 years of service (while also teaching HS and coaching), achieved a really high rank. I’m thankful for his service.
That doesn’t make or break him fore. But it sure is a checkmark in the Positive category, for me at least.
Two separate questions.
- Did he serve honorably? Absolutely.
- Did he deceive to inflate his record of military service? Also, yes.
Some of the things he said were technically true but seem carefully worded to deceive. Other things he said are technically not true but were perhaps just poorly worded in the moment. Taken together, it’s a clear pattern of not being straightforward about the issue.
