I liked JD Vance, and thought Hillbilly Elegy tracked very closely to my experiance in that part of America. Unfortunately his changes over the years since then have made me think he doesn’t actually have any convictions. Luckily his running mate has 34.
I didn’t like Harris as a prosecutor, but this is going to be a ride.
I also think that after he went on his book tour and met all of DCs power players, he and his wife (who is brilliant and a killer moreso than even him) realized they were light-years smarter and more talented than most of DC, and so they decided to role play the Underwood’s from House Of Cards.
Not how it works. The line of succession does not work like musical chairs. The Speaker of the House is third in line to the presidency, but this would only become relevant if both the president and vice president were to be killed (or otherwise removed) roughly simultaneously. In the event that the president leaves office, the vice president becomes president. Then, the new president (former vice president) is empowered to nominate a new vice president. This nomination must be confirmed by a majority vote in both houses of congress. This same process takes place if the vice president is removed and the president needs to fill the vacancy.
This process is laid out in the 25th amendment. It actually came up twice. Richard Nixon nominated Gerald Ford to replace Spiro Agnew. Then when Nixon resigned, Ford nominated Nelson Rockefeller as the new vice president. Prior to the 25th amendment, vice presidential vacancies were not filled until the next election. Although it never came up, the speaker was next in line to the presidency in those cases. However, the speaker remained speaker and did not become vice president.
Agree. It’s like getting old LOL. I’m just hoping if the non-crazies are in office, I’ll just die of old age and not some painful, debilitating illness…
They’re all crazy. The idea that any of these people in political office could have thought that they should be the ones telling us what’s what, is narcissism at its finest. They’re also remarkably unremarkable. They’re all welfare queens who figured out that you “earn” more money when you’re writing the checks.
Invading Iraq was crazy. Mishandling Katrina because of cronyism was crazy. Deregulating everything is crazy. Citizens United is crazy. Fighting to keep drag queens out of schools then turning around and wanting to bring religion into schools is crazy. Giving Kuschner any job in the White House is crazy. Hiring Omarosa is crazy.
They don’t specify which or whose god. But given they also put god on money, maybe we know who their god is. I used to be a communist… not really, but I had a roommate in college who was.
I was agreeing to that^^, which was my original post wrt this conversation. Notice I didn’t blame 'da 'dems for inflation; yes, it happened during Bernie’s term, but I know excessive spending is 100% a two party tango.
Empires always fall off the edge, because history; it’s just a question of walking off, or hurtling off, that’s all.
