Biden 2021 - A Mediocre Middle Ground

I could use that kind of excitement in my life right now.

I’m glad that chump Derek is in prison.

I think he should be in prison too, but not for 2nd degree murder.

What’s up with Tariffs?

The previous administration imposed taxes on imports. The current administration hasn’t made huge efforts to remove the tariffs. This is costing US consumers like $50 Billion per year. Is this Protectionism helping or hurting us? Will either side take up getting rid of these taxes, or do voters like the idea trying to keep out foreign goods.

And foreign workers?

Trump policies lead to like 50% less work Visas. Statistic dudes say the US Labor Market is about 3 million workers short, and that roughly 1 million of those jobs could be filled by temporary foreign workers, if we returned to 2015-2016 numbers.

Lots of people are turning up at the border, but we’re not getting any of them into the jobs that foreign workers did in the past. In some industries work Visa people account for 20-25% of the labor force. This shortage of labor is raising prices on food, in construction, etc, etc…

Is there any will to get more immigrants working? Or is this topic too heated for a politician to even mention?

In general, not much. My opinion depends on the Tariff in question. Not all are equal. I’ve not spent much time diving into the Biden administration’s tariff policy.

In general, bring 'em if they can do the job and function well in our society.

Which policies were those?

I’d settle for getting my stepson’s many unemployed friends in their 20’s working, and other Americans like them who could work, but choose not to for a variety of reasons. The jobs in my circle that need to be filled will not be well-filled by someone who doesn’t speak English and can instead collect generous state benefits.

So 1st degree, I agree with you bro!

Clever, but still a swing and a miss.

I was debating starting a thread about the Democrats (and Liz Cheney’s) most recent implementation of disgraceful Soviet-style tribunals. I opened up CNN.com this morning to read about a BOMBSHELL witness at the January 6th Committee of our most august politicians of the highest levels of integrity.

That headline is seemingly off the site now, and I can’t find the article I read this morning informing me, the reader, that the January 6th riot has placed us in American democracy’s darkest hour. The “star witness”, a 25 year-old aide, backed it up.

Trump assaulted his limo driver and tried to grab the wheel, this article explained. I was also informed of several other terrible Trump misdeeds this aide has bravely shared. All of this testimony seems to have fizzled within hours. It all sounded just as plausible as Dr. Ford’s credible accusations of Kavanaugh’s horrific act of rape at a place she couldn’t name, during a time she couldn’t recall, with no corroborating witnesses of any kind who could substantiate her story in any way whatsoever.

To our great benefit as a society we now #believeallwomen.

You have to wonder where the Democrats keep getting these people who crawl out of the woodwork to impugn whoever needs to be impugned at the moment in the middle of the national spotlight with the murkiest accusations you can possibly imagine. On an unrelated topic, please pray for Gislaine Maxwell’s safety. I read she was placed on suicide watch by someone who is very concerned about her.

Anyway, maybe this belongs in it’s own January 6th purge trial thread. I’m surprised nobody has started a thread about it yet, given that it’s such a serious committee investigating the greatest threat to our Democracy in all of our history, JANUARY SIXTH!!!

This is outrageous, and tragic, to everyone… I’m not sure what your point is? This, to me, is worse than Uvalde, just based on the number of people, which I assume included many children. A massive amount of humans dying because of a person/people doing something shitty, negligent, or malicious, however it happens, is tragic. I’m pretty sure most people, left and right, agree with this basic point of view. And I think it’s unbelievably shitty to suggest that being on the left side of the spectrum means someone like me wouldn’t be outraged by this.

And on the flip side, I think it’s shitty that anyone on the left would say people on the right don’t care about kids dying in school shootings. In both situations, both sides are outraged. The difference is opinions on how to fix the problems, not the outrage in and of itself.

your friend is misguided, then. And that sucks that a) he believes this to be true, and b) that it’s the first thing he thought of.

Dude, come on.

You can joke about it only because a brave man shot and killed a woman coming through a window. You wouldn’t find it so funny if a guy with a moose hat was making you speak Moosonese.

Honestly, what we have now is worse, so I would gladly give Moosonese a try.

To be clear, I was speaking about Democrat leadership, not the general public.

And guess what, there is no outrage, not over the policies that create the conditions that led to this tragedy. Who is the democrat even discussing a border policy change?

Oh well, just another unfortunate turn of events that is completely unconnected to Democrat policy. Like inflation, or astronomical rising murder rates in Democrat strongholds.

I appreciate the clarification. There’s certainly more truth to that.

“A Mediocre Middle Ground”? You are giving him too much credit. He is fucking awful!

Hey Brother Flats
Drove by dozens of apartment complexes in Burbs N of Philly the past 2 weeks.
Parking lots were full, night or day. Full like after workday full - irrespective of time.

I’m curious when (if) Americans are going to to fill the Help Wanted positions posted on every other door? We (sic) don’t deserve this country.

Our country is great at overcoming challenges!

How do we get those Philly people out to Iowa/Arkansas to work at the meat packing plants? Or out to California/Florieda/Texas to fill vacant hospitality jobs? Or to where ever the manufacturing jobs are?

And is it the Governments job to try to steer the labor force and direct the economy?

These are exciting times! Conservatives used to like to stay out of the economy. But now lots of people are more excited about Populist ideas and their Govt actively working for them.

Is it time for a Un-Constrained leader to drive the economy somewhere? Or should we return to a more Constrained, hands off style of leadership?

Stop paying people to not work. People move where there’s work, if they need to.

Absolutely not.
